white smoke.
white smoke.
i recently bought a clean title fd with only a minor dent for 5 grand, with its only main problem was that it needed a new thermostat, and a water pump, i recently replaced it but now i notice that whenever i start up the car for the first few mins alot of white smoke comes out of the exhaust. but after i drive it around the white smoke is gone.
anyone know the problem of why there is white smoke when i start up the car?
thanks.

Sounds like the car was previously overheated. You can't overheat these cars. Do it once, and the coolant o-rings will eventually fail allowing coolant to enter the combustion chamber. This is the while smoke you are seeing on startup. It will continue to get worse and worse. The only solution is a rebuild. If you do a search you will find a ton of information pertaining to the subject. Be glad you only paid $5k for the car.
There normally is a lot of water vapor in exhaust, and it comes out as white vapor or smoke until the system warms up a bit, especially in colder weather. If you are lucky, that's all it is. Are you losing coolant? Does that white smoke smell sweet, like antifreeze?
well i did change the thermostat on sunday, cause the original was busted. and the white smoke didn't really start appearing until mid september, and i didn't even drive the car fully until the thermostat was changed, today was the day i really drove it to test drive it. and The white smoke is appearing only at the startup, i only hope that it is the real problem, and no hoping for a rebuild but if it comes down to a rebuild then i'll start on it right away.

If you are still worried, check the coolant level often when the car is cold. Check it both at the filler neck and at the overflow tank. If you are blowing coolant out the exhaust, the loss will show up, probably at the filler neck first.
