R12 is easy enough to get on eBay. However, if you have to ask where to put it, I would just bring it to a professional. Should cost about $150 or so - you could easily spend that much on AC gauges and R12 cans and still not having it working properly afterwards.

First off you dont know if its actually your refrigeration system or your control system. If it is indeed your refrig system putting more r12/r134 is just going to be pointless because its going to leak out again. Save your money and a headache and bring it to a pro. If you do go ahead and do it yourself first pinpoint what caused the problem, and go from there. Ive seen people damage their systems from putting in more refrigerant just because their ac wasnt working, and it turned out to be the electrical part of the system that failed, costing them way more than it would have if they just brought it in.

It pays to go to a professional A/C guy first if possible.

They can put a dye in with the gas to show if there are any leaks in the system. You also need to put an oil in the mixture for the compressor.

The top up points on the a/c system are near the firewall. if you trace the compressor pipes back to the firewall you will see two aluminium pipes.

You should see two grey caps. One with H on it and one with L on. These the the High pressure and Low pressure points and this is where the gas top up is done. They are next to and slightly below the Upper Intake Manifold. They behave like a tyre valve there's a small pin in the middle which releases the gas.

One last question, is the compressor actually coming on? If it is there should be gas in the system. It will shut itself off it the gas has gone.

On my system the condensor had failed (the green dye was all down the front of it). Because the system had no gas in it (it had all leaked out). I was able to change the condensor myself and then got a mobile service in to top the gas up. Saved myself a ton in labour costs.

you grounded the wires somewhere for the air pump clutch which also powers the ac clutch, most likely. check your fuses

and if you have to ask where you are in way over your head
