Lightbulb Where is M2?

Ordered a M2 Large for my FD and 2 weeks and nothing According to RX7 Store some folks have been waiting for 1.5 months!! Why are they so slow...hell, what good is an intercooler if they cannot get the product out. What gives? Anyone else having this problem? Could someone lead me to an alternate smic. Like the looks of fmic but difficult installation intimidates me.

Thanks

I have the m2 large and the fitment is crap! This is just my experience but it has taken a lot of work to make the pipes fit right. Now the intake duct to the intercooler is a different story. It sucks so bad, I am working on making a new one completely.

Do you think there is much gain in the M2 large over the medium? I thought the quality of fit and finish was great. ttpowerd, Would you recommend another smic? thanks for the reply...

I went with the Blitz SMIC. It may not be the best SMIC on the market, but it's better than the stock IC and fits directly into the stock location (those were my two requirements).

Pettit also has some good IC's. However, I've heard nothing but good things about M2 IC's (once you get them installed that is).

I called M2 to order a large in aug, and they told me to call some strange shop that I've never heard of. maybe it was the corp name of M2 and they're doing business as M2, but it sure sounded like they were sending me off to some sketchy grey market manufacturer:o

Almost everything I have ordered from M2 has taken a very long time. My roll bar was two and a half months. My brother waited 3 for his. My radiator took the better part of a month also. It seems that if they don't have an item on the shelf right now it will take a long time to get there. I am currently waiting over a month now for steel braded brake lines.

This is normal for M2. I think they are like Whataburger, "We don't make it until you order it."

I waited a little over a month for my M2 downpipe from rx7store. They just said it was 'backordered'.

My intake took four business days, the medium intercooler about two weeks and the radiator 4 months. I was a little surprised when the radiator showed up, but I ordered it in March and didn't need it till July, so that worked out by accident. The intake and intercooler were ordered in November and January. Perhaps they were busy getting ready for the summer season when I ordered in March. The intercooler duct does not fit that well with their radiator because of a different profile on the top tank. I intend to make my own from CF, maybe this winter.

No offense but this comment is hilarious. Welcome to the world of small manufacturer parts. BTW, have you called them? Emailed them? Please don't come on here to bitch if you haven't even contacted them. I'm not trying to flame you or anything, it's just I think a lot of people go about things the wrong way.

BTW, I waited over 3 months for my Racing Beat dual-tip exhaust. When it comes to FD parts, you really can't bitch until you are in the "waiting for X months" range.

Again, not trying to insult you, just trying to make your expectations a little more realistic.

wow, "realistic expectations"....hmmmm. Waiting for parts already paid for is hardly a badge of honor there rynberg. If fact I have purchased the large IC with CF M2 intake (to replace the RE intake) and greddy elbow. I have an ecu that is really a waste to install cause I'll just have to tune it again when the ic comes in (hopefully before hell freezes over)

As far as contacting them...it is through the rx7 store included in a 5k order. Since I am trying to schedule re-paint for my car everything is on hold because of the IC. Really $2500 in parts for ic, intake and elbow and I have no idea the status? Maybe this is ordinary for you not ordinary for me. Especially pre-paid.

Actually I am not bitching, I want to know if anyone has this problem. And in fact I am offended by your presumptions since I think it a goal of every wholesaler to keep adequate inventory. It is claimed that over 10 people have been waiting for much longer than I.

Exactly what way am I supposed to go about it? Simply asking to establish realistic expectations. Funny thing, I wonder how many parts would be sold if the true delivery times where published.

"Racing Beat exhaust 3 months..." "M2 radiator for 4 months." Now THAT is hilarious!!

I have about 12 people waiting on M2 intercoolers. M2 cant and has never kept up with demand. I have a large check here waiting for them to get these intercoolers done.

M2 I have in stock is:
Carbon Airbox
Single and Dual tip exhausts
AST Bypass
Coilover conversion kits.
DMS Coilovers
M2 Springs

I do applogize for any delays on that stuff.

My M2 order was NOT pre-paid. They did not bill me until it was shipped. M2 is NOT the wholesaler. Your beef should not be directed at them if you state it is a goal of every wholesaler to keep adequate inventory. I bought my items directly from them. Two weeks is nothing for almost anything.
You ordered items through a middle man. If he took a day or two to get the order entered, found he did not have it in his own stock, ordered 5 from the supplier so he would have some in stock for the next time, received them from the supplier on the other side of the country, and re-shipped them to you, it would take a miracle for them to arrive at your house in two weeks. They are being shipped twice, this alone would take two weeks if everyone had nothing else to do but fill your order.
You are talking about an item that is built solely for a car that has not been sold in North America for 7 years. No one can afford to keep a large quantity of everything in stock, because they don't sell that fast. Stocking guages, turbos and other items that can be used on any car is easy.

Actually, the two weeks is of little concern men nor the RX7 Store which has been great. It is the amount of folks and the delay time for them as an expectation.

When items are specialized as they are for our cars the price takes these variables into consideration i.e. market base, avialable customers, supply, demand blah blah.

Rather than wait months like some have will still no order status? That to me is aboslutely ridiculous. Again, it is not my wait that is the concern but rather the wait of those previous to me and still without any better knowledge.

Obviously, TYSON, I understand the middle man concept...in fact I dont think it is an issue with him at all. Nor something that can be controlled by them. So save me the gang rape there flamer and the lectures on "supply chain" theory you learned in grade school.

OK.

Nice attitude to our responses. If you had done any research at all, you would have known to expect a wait on M2 parts. Especially when ordering from a 2nd party (no offense Jason).

BTW, I didn't pay for my exhaust until it shipped.

I'm not sure which of my "presumptions" offended you so much. The fact is that M2, as well as almost any other FD part maker, can take a while to get parts out. The fact is they DON'T maintain an inventory of many of their parts, either because of demand (like the Racing Beat exhausts- they can't make them fast enough) or because of how few orders come in (M2 large SMIC).

The "funny thing" is most of us WOULD still order these parts, because most of us know we are not going to get some of the parts right away. If you knew how long it was going to take, would you have cancelled your order? Who else makes a large SMIC kit for our cars? Pettit, PFS(?), that's about it. Do you think they are going to be much better?

This is what I meant by realistic expectations.

The whole argument that you should be willing to wait months for parts for this car because it is so old is absolutely ludicrous. Age and rarity of the car receiving the part has nothing to do with customer service and the fact that a reputable company will not sell you something they don't have on the shelf. For "custom" work it is typically agreed that the buyer be advised on the length of time required and he place a deposit. The balance is then due upon receiving the finished goods. It's not the customer's responsibility to carry the manufacturer's overhead.

Dealing with cottage industries is fine, especially with highly specialized parts. But if you go to a website, click "buy" and enter a credit card number I don't find it unreasonable at all to expect some honest feedback from the vendor on when to expect your shipment.

Some of the prevailing perceptions of this thread are exactly why Duane at Crooked Willow backed away from FD performance parts. It is a pain to supply specialized parts to so many people that often prefer to shift the center of the universe to their own priorities.

Excuse me while I go order a Granite Cathedral for overnight delivery...

I don't think you do.
You complain about pre-payment, yet M2 does not have your money.
M2 did not tell you you would have your intercooler in less than two weeks, I don't think anyone has told you that.
Jason can not tell you how long it will take M2 to make an intercooler for you, but he could tell you how many people are waiting and how long they've been waiting, you could have then chosen a different intercooler.
Once a month someone complains about slow service from M2 here on the forum, you could have read any of these threads and altered your decision based on their experience.
I have personally waited 5 weeks for block off plates from Jason, after being told they would be shipped the next day. BLOCK OFF PLATES!! Not an intercooler!
My first shipment from the Store took 2 months, because it had three different items from different suppliers, even though the site used to say all items in stock. It also had trouble with passing through customs.

I will buy from The RX-7 Store and M2 Performance again, because Jason has great selection and great prices and M2 has products that no one else offers. I will be prepared to wait for both, however. I agree that the customer could be kept informed of delivery dates, but if you didn't ask when you spent your money, you usually get standard delivery.

As for the "grade school" comment, supply chain management was included in some of my university courses, and I deal with manufacturing supply chain problems every day. Several people have offered you advice with no ill will towards you, but you have replied with nothing but sarcasm and increasingly difficult to understand comments.

I understand your situation but this is normal for M2. I have ordered directly from M2 before and they never charged my card until the item was shipped.

If you go through a middle man, I would expect my card to be charged once the order is placed cause they might order in quanities and have to pay all at once. 12 i/c's at $1500 a pop is expensive and the middle man might not know when they will be ready.

I always research a company before I buy from them. In this case you may have found out it would have taken a while and have turned another direction. I'm not blaming you, just trying to help you understand.

Also keep in mind that during racing season M2 is very busy with racing duty as well as increased orders. I ordered a cat back from them in Febuary and got it in two weeks - clear across north America! I would never expect such service from them during warm weather.

Tyson,
You still waiting on plates from me? If so send me an email now.

I typically dont charge until the product is shipped even with M2 stuff. Im more than willing to buy 20 M2 intercoolers for stock, just for the fact they sell.
From what I understand M2 charges first then makes the product.
I wont pay upfront anymore for M2 stuff because it takes to long to get the stuff made and thats alot of money tied up doing nothing.

No No, the plates were back in January. We spoke several times and you were waiting to get them from your supplier. I was just pointing out to this guy that other people have had to wait for products before, no matter where they buy them. No ill will to you! He says he spent $5000 and seems to expect it to arrive immediately! He also complained that he had pre-paid even though you obviously didn't charge him yet.

I ordered my M2 medium last march and got in the middle of June and I was the first one on the list when Jason started to carry their stuff. Just sit back and be patient. I know its hard to do.

The IC is well worth it in my opinion. the medium looks great in the engine bay.
