Depending on what is already on the car, going single turbo is not cheap. If the car is pretty stock, it's going to cost more than just the turbo itself to go single. $1000 is pretty standard for a "decent" stock twin turbo rebuild.

Now, most people will tell you not to rebuild the stock turbos. Many people never have luck with rebuilt units. *IF* you decide to have them rebuilt, make sure whoever rebuilds them also balances the assemblies. If they don't, chances are they will fail.

I would recommend picking up a used set as you can usually find them in usable condition for $200-350.

+1 for just replacing with used turbos. I've bought two sets for under $250 each. Much cheaper than rebuilding them. I see them all day long for sale in the classifieds section, just nab up a set with decent miles and use it till they go bad then repeat.
