I assume then you're only looking for another 18months/10k miles?

I don't believe so... every year? That's insane... I don't think fuel filters (stock) were made to be changed every 10k miles... Even the one on today's cars don't get changed till 100k... I understand the being **** part, since I change my oil every 1500 miles. But every year for the fuel filter? Come on...

Can someone else back me up on this? I only put 3-4k a year on my 7 now... so I plan not to change it for a long time...

IIRC, the FSM says to replace the fuel filter every 5 yrs. or 60k miles. But I think some here have relocated it and probably change it a little more often.

I replaced mine after 2 years / 11k. I noticed a difference at low load, it was smoother. I guess if I really wanted to know I would have had a fuel pressure gauge and compared the before/after.

Have you ever seen a Miata's fuel filter? They are the same dimensions as ours, and their cars make less than half as much power as ours. If your filter is dirty or clogged, your car can run lean. Running lean leads to detonation, and costly engine rebuilds. A fuel filter costs about the same price as two tanks of gas. Personally, I prefer changing mine before it gets the chance to cause problems.

Though I agree that a proactive changing of the fuel filter is a good idea, it's not the cost that people care about, it's the pita labour that comes with the task.

Once you've changed the fuel filter, you can do the job in 45 minutes. There are less than 10 bolts that need removing, and that's including the aluminum splashguards. It's similar to spark plugs, it's only a tough job if you've never done it before.

Now, replacing all the coolant hoses, that's a tough order...

yeah, it's not really the cost of it, just the labor part of it. I've done it before, but I did it on a friend's lift, and all the fuel running down my arms and stuff

I was just saying, I've only put 4k miles on it since my last change (last year, beginning of summer), I don't think I need to change it this year or next year... But yes, I will probably do it the following year... The previous owner NEVER changed it, and he had 35k on that filter with no issues...

^^ Not so much as important as the possibility of running lean, like folks mentioned before... since the engine would be starved of fuel. But again, if the FSM says 5 yrs or 60K, I'm sticking with that.
