I had a few people PM me asking what's happening. Well, the past month has basically been all work an no play. My VPN wouldn't connect today (so I couldn't do any real work from home) so I snuck out into the garage for about 2 hours to get back to some work on the car.

In the last month, I purchased a new wiring harness (I don't feel like fighting those wiring gremlins and I should have already done it with the project anyways), Samco radiator hoses (I don't like the fitment on the SS radiator hoses), replacing a few sensors and also picked up a used M2 intake (for some reason I've been digging the intake box look lately).

Before my daughter realized I wasn't in the house and came looking for me, I got in about 1.5 hours of work in and the old wiring harness is out of the car. I spent Friday late night re-wrapping most of the new harness while watching TF&TF3. Oddly enough, the movie was better than I expected. The M2 K&N filters are now cleaned and reoiled. If I don't work a ton of hours tomorrow, I should be able to get the new harness installed after work. Mondays are not usually good days so I'm not really counting on getting back to it until Wednesday but we'll see.

 

Thanks !! Now you've us all wanting a new wiring harness. I know I wish I had one! I heard Ray is running a sale that includes a good price on new harnesses. That's good news though and I love my M2 airbox!

Wow...my eyes hurt from reading all this... Well great job...When my engine goes I will be looking for options over my current setup... I like some things you did and will be keeping those in mind...Finances is my biggest hurdle...I'm crossing my finger and hoping that this engine lasts for the extent of my schooling--after that financing should be about 3 times better!! Good luck with working the bugs out!

No, I didn't. To be honest it never crossed my mind or I probably would have tried it. I will defintely look into that for the next time I have to rebuild or replace an engine.

I did have to source my own longer engine mount bolts.

14mm x 7mm ends, 24mm total length. Fits PERFECT with no cutting but I will probably buy some larger washers or get flanged nuts.

 

Good find. Had I known what size I needed, I would have just ordered some studs from McMasters (since I ended up ordering the engine mount bolts from them anyway).

All in all, I wasn't disappointed with the Moroso kit. It just needed a little extra work but it was short work with the cut-off disc.

 

Ever consider using water+meth injection?

If a clean engine that runs cool is what you're after, that's how us Supra guys do it. I tore down a meth injected engine and I could not believe how clean it was. You could make pancakes on it.

Anyways, just a thought! Sorry if it was mentioned before.

The Moroso stud kit actually has hex "holes" in the head of the studs so you can torque them home with an Allen wrench, which is VERY nice. They also have flanged, serrated nuts, which is the way to go. Considering the price is VERY reasonable, I think it's a solid way to go - the kit is like $19 if memory serves.

I doubt I'll be running any of the AI systems. Most of my build up I can attribute to "not knowing what to do" with the car when I originally got it. I've had the car for a long time, but really didn't know anything about cars (other than they needed gas to go) for most of that time. I'm sure a lot of my build up was from running the wrong oils in the car as well as a lot of other "I should had know better" problems.

Yes, the Moroso kit is nice. I just wish they had a few different versions to pick from which change the stud length. However, at the time I would have been ordering it myself, I probably wouldn't have known what size I needed.

Well you should consider it.
1) It's cheap
2) It lowers or eliminates knock on pump gas
3) It will allow you to run more boost without fear of knock (Most people get away with 26psi on pump gas, if you ever decide to go single that is)
4) It lowers temperatures (A good thing for RX-7's from what I understand)
5) Cleans the engine
6) Cool factor, you get to say 'Yea... I'm on meth"

 

IMO, none of those factors really portray what I'm doing with my car. While it is more of a safeguard, I don't want to depend on something which may run out while I'm tracking (other than fuel which I can't help). Something like AI would be an extreme last resort for my purposes.

Yea, you aren't the only one mentioning that. I hear it from the wife, yet I don't get allowed time to do any work on it.

It looks like the Christmas shopping is done so I can get the new harness and other stuff installed this weekend. And to boot, we have 60 degree weather here during winter right now. Not that it matters as the lovely garage heater can keep the garage over 60 degrees inside no matter hold cold it is outside.

 

Bummer. oh well.
