when burping your coolant isnt doing it
First things first
New Street ported motor
New AST
Getting my readings from an digital water temp gauge thats tapped into the water pump housing
This following is what happens at idle
Take cap off filler neck (not the AST)
Turn car on...after a minute fluid wants to come up and out instead of going into the engine..I then wrap a rag around it to catch extra water..turn on my heater and start to burp..nothing.....fluid is still trying to escape from the top....
If I leave the cap on and start the car..once the temp reaches about 190 fluid/steam starts to come out the top of the filler neck (not the ast)..panic...and turn car off....
I am not running coolant through my throttle body im bypassing this....If i did take this hose off coolant just comes out and I see no air in it (only tried this for 5 seconds coolant went everywheres)...
Ive been burping the car for the past say 5-6 days..Im clueless....

don't race, don't need to
The allen plugs are covering the drilled passages used to route the air buildup to the AST. It goes back at an angle, then down, then forward, and they needed to drill those into the casting. The plugs are to plug it, obviously.
Anecdotally, when I got my car, the plug just behind the filler neck opening had been removed and then put back by a previous mechanic. I eventually saw that it was letting off a bit of steam, i.e. leaking system pressure. I replaced the engine six months later. Can you say overheat? It had occured before I bought it, and the seller didn't tell me. So if you are going to pull that plug to burp, PUT TEFLON TAPE on the threads when you put it back!!!
Lastly, just to be totally clear, the AST takes a 13 lb "pressure" cap (i.e. WITH the spring) as per the cooling system recall. Originally it had 16 lb, and was causing problems. The filler neck takes a flat cap (i.e. no spring), though a pressure cap will work provided it seals correctly.
