What's worse???
What's worse???
Poor cars!! I've been thinking about all the horrible things people do to the gen3 RX-7. So what do you think is worse.
1: V8 swap
2:little kids working at Mc. Burger king, buying a beat FD and then not having the money to fix it.
3: Same kid in #2 sells the dead car to another dreamer and the cycle continues.
4: tuner boy gets one and slaps chrome wheels big *** wing and vinal stickers on it.
5: 3+ mods and no ECU, motor blows and car gets a bad rap. from illinformed people.
6: parents of a 12th grader buy sonney boy his first car and he smashes it a week later, atributed to lack of ability and experiance.
7: The way YOU drive it everyday
I think the V8 swap, although a bitter pill for a rotor head, is the least of all evils. At least you know someone is spending real $$ on the car and should take very good care of it. ...... If it ever gets done.. Cough JIM.cough
I think #2 is the worst.

There are to many people who assume they can just beat on the engine all day. This is a delicate engine and you have to have some knowledge about it before you start abusing it like a honda engine.

I vote 6.....if they blow the engine at least that can be fixed relatively easy, if they rice it out with alum wing and vinyl that can be taken off by the next owner, but if they wrap it around a tree or something then that is just one less FD for somebody else to enjoy
although I don't think all kids are bad drivers or that they can't handle a high power car, some just give them a bad name. And I'm not saying this because I'm a youngster either...I'm 27....but my first car at 16 was an '81 camaro with a big v8 (the old style that was around at the end of the 70's not the style that was around most of the 80's) and I would have been pissed if everybody tried to tell me that I wasn't a good enough driver to handle that car or if the insurance companies tried to rape me like they do to kids these days

Here's my vote, in order from worst to least worst:
6: parents of a 12th grader buy sonney boy his first car and he smashes it a week later, atributed to lack of ability and experiance.

2. I guess.
There is a kid in Austin that goes to Bowie. He has a full body kit on his cym and wheels etc. and an exhaust but supposedly I heard that his engine is shot and he runs on one rotor. :O
Yet he spent all his money on the body kit etc. and an awful whale tail wing instead of fixing the car.
Rice!

'94 Running on both rotors thank you.

Hey my mommy bought me my FD when i was 16, and im 17 now....i take that personally! jk, Yeah i have a friend who got an auto FD as his first car and he crashed it withen 2 or 3 days of having it. lol, I havent put a scratch on mine yet!
some people like to spin their tires at idle and some people like to rev up to 5-7krpm and drop clutch to spin their tires
personnaly like V8's and like the ability to have so much torque that at idle, you can just sit there and liquify your tires
BTW: people which believe in #3 should wear a hat which says im a newbie moron. over boost and running lean kills an engine, not the amount of mods you have!
#2,3,4 are harmless and dont hurt anything, eventually it will get picked up by someone which will take care of it.
#6 is bad cuz it will probally kill the occupants or an innocent bystander
#7 is fine because thats what cars do, your suppose to drive them for god sakes, they are $30k cars, not $200+k cars. the only reason why i would be against #7 would be because of all the terrible drivers on the road which will probally run in to you (i almost got sideswiped by a driver cutting in to my lane with out looking first just last week). Living in Hawaii, with truly the worst drivers in the world, might have something to do with this.

i think number 6 is the worst
at least the others can be changed or undone but 6 is kinda like the end..
that god im none of those numbers, im never gonna do a v8 swap LOL, everything i have now, i earned my damn self, i take care of the necessities for the car, i dont beat on the car (if its running somewhat sluggish) and i dont put any fast and furious acc on the car AT ALL!!

Exactly, its that unreliabilty, those weird faces people make when you tell them it doesn't have pistons, rods, cams, valves, timing belt/chain etc,etc....the exclusiveness of the rotary is in a league of its own.
You just gotta love its fragile character.
I take my hat off to JimLab for his inginuity and skill with his project, but i don't think theres a car that hasn't undergone some V8 conversion, someone somewhere has stuffed in a V8 into almost every car.
IMO it's the puke.
The thing is that the rotary is what the rx7 came with, despite all of its downsides it still has its upsides and if it came with a piston engine it would probably be a Honda and be mundane and boring and crap.
Lastly if people prefer to have a V8 swap over the rotary because of reliabilty issues and for ease of maitenance etc, then the chances are the swap is going to be the run of the mill bullshit conversion that people do. Because you just want to do it for these reasons as opposed to doing it for the challenge and craftsmanship it usually turns out **** with the attitude of "lets just shove it in so we can get rid of our problems with the original set-up".
Unfortunately this is why so many of these conversions are crap and are carried out by people who havn't reallly got a clue as to what they are doing.
JimLab being an exception here of course
