Whats up with my boost? Never read about a problem like this before.

Ok, this is kinda weird.
When I do a boost test in 3rd gear. I get a 10-5-12 pattern. I have a prespool valve on and its already all the way open.

But, when I punch it in 1st gear I'll get 12 PSI primary boost, then the transition dips down to 5 PSI, then its just flutters between 5-7 PSI until redline.

Any ideas as to whats goin on?

My mods are in my sig.

i had no secondary boost in 1st gear one time. turned out that I had a check valve (kinda underneath the UIM) that split wide open. the one i'm talking about is not accessible unless you take off the UIM........I think.
good luck

Zoom, I'm now working on the same problem.

This is the exact reason I never wanted to work on the car myself... Anyways, if I find out a solution, I'll post it.

Couldnt it just be a dead turbo?

Not here. I was fixing a fuel odor problem and when I put everything back, I lost secondary boost. It's just something I either knocked off or re-routed wrong when putting everything back in. It was just fine before I jacked with the car. I'm positive my turbo didn't fail with less than 20k miles on it and over a week without running.

Unfortunately, I broke one of the studs on the throttle body so I'm waiting to get one in. I live in FORD country, so all anyone has is carb studs which are just too big.

Mahjik, that sux, but I know how it is. For almost a year there has been no Mazda dealership within an hour of where I live. Take the UIM back off, and triple check where all of the hoses are going.

Yea, that's what I did. I saw a vacuum hose off, not sure if I knocked it off looking around or if it was already off (I didn't have any change in my vacuum, still sitting at 20).

I think it was the two lines into the cockit side of the UIM. They were both VERY short and I think the one with the check valve came off when I installed it. I should have just extended them then, but I didn't.

I redid those hoses and a few others (mini vacuum hose job) and got everything back until I broke the throttle body stud.

Rule for everyone: Don't over tighten bolts just for the heck of it!

I ordered some studs from a local Mazda dealer which came in today. They actually have a very good mechanic that has worked on my car before. I had my wife pick them up for me but unfortunately, they ordered the studs for the UIM instead of the throttle body. So, I'm heading up there in the morning. If they can't get the right part, I'll just hack up a long screw from a local hardware store.
