Whats the trick to removing the cat-back?

I am having a hell of a time trying to remove the cat-back to replace the exhuast gasket. Its does nto want to come off of the hangers at all, and I cannot seem to pull it back far enough to slide a gasket in. Any pointers?

rub a little vaseline in the hanger and pry around with a screw driver.

dishwashing liquid also works....if it's the front hanger, an option is to just unbolt the top of the hanger

Appreciate the help guys! I decided to go back under the car and observe, I found out the exhaust hangers are bolted in two sections. I unbolted the two exhaust hangers, the rear outside one and the one on the diff and Let me say that seems to be alot easier than trying the pry the hangers out, took me about 5-10minutes tops to do it and no cussing! One thing for sure the one mounted on the diff is a tough to get to, and I am going to replace that with bolt that I could loosen from the outside of the hanger rather than between teh diff and hanger.

snap-on makes a exhaust hanger puller. works great. not worth it if your only going to use it once. Im sure craftsman makes a similar product for 1/5 the price.

Hmm do you happen to have a link handy with info on the tool? Cause I am sure it will be removed a few more times, and besides I got friends too

A shot of PB Blaster on the rubber is what works very well. Just wiggle and pull on the rubber hangers. If you don't have PB Blaster laying around, you should get some. Some hangers are hard to work with, just lube them and be patient.

I think I actually used engine degreeser...probably not the best choice but it worked. I agree this is actually a tougher job than you'd immagine it being

Place a little lubricant on the hanger. Then open a channel lock to the proper size. Place one end on the metal end of the hanger, and the other end on the opposite side of the rubber. Squeeze the channel locks so that the **** on the end of the metal hanger is pushed into the rubber. Once you get it started, it comes off pretty easily.
