13B is 1.3 liters and a two rotor engine. The 20B is 2.0 liters and is a three rotor engine. The 20B only came in the Cosmo from Japan. Pettit can do the engine swap for you if you've got a ton of money.

Check out their site for more info!

Re: What's tha difference?13B,20B?

13B = 2 rotors x 654cc = 1308cc = 1.3L
20B = 3 rotors x 654cc = 1962cc = 2.0L

A 20B swap (if you pay someone to do it, like Pettit) is upwards of around $40,000. Yes, that's 40 grand.

Doing some of the work yourself, you might shave a few thousand off that number, but it's still an extremely expensive swap. It's not a simple "remove the 13B and insert the 20B" swap.

13B is a 2-rotor engine. The 20B is a 3-rotor engine. We have a specific forum for the 20B guys and you can browse that forum to see what it's all about:

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/forumd...?s=&forumid=95

Keep in mind, the 20B "engine" is faily inexpensive, it's all the rest that cost the money.

You mean I don't really have 13 of the "b" rotors (the 3mm apex seal type) ???

RotaryRocket101, here is plain and simple a non-joking answer to your question

13B is a 1.3l 2 rotor engine, and it came in the 2nd gen rx-7 (86-92)

13B-REW is the Twin turbo 1.3l 2 rotor that comes in the 3rd gen rx-7 (93-95) This is often abbreviated to simply, 13b, causing confusion w/the above non turbo motor.

20B is a 2.0l 3 rotor engine, that was never available in an rx-7, but can be put in for a price by certain aftermarket tuners like the aforementioned Pettit. (www.pettitracing.com)

My suggestion is you learn a little more about the RX7 and the rotory engine before you consider buying one.....they are definitely not like other cars.

Jimlab thinks that a Chevy v8 (ungodly overbuilt LT1 to be specific) is better in a 3rd gen. Hopefully he'll get it running someday and prove it.

Another alternative is to put the LS1 or LT1 Chev. V8 in with the T51 Trans. Some people on this forum don't like this because it gets away from the rotary engine that makes these cars so unique, but it's another alternative that can make it more reliable if done right. Reliable as in getting more than 70+K miles out of a 13B-REW Core. Jim Lab has a project LT1 with 650+ hp estimated, so with the aluminum block V8's your not looking at too much more weight in comparison to the 13B-REW core and all the turbo accessories.

Jimlab is making a V8 hotrod, combining the LT1 V8, and the RX-7, for what is supposed to be quite a car when it's done. As far as rotary engines go, that you can fit or even afford to put in a 7, nothing.

However, there was a R26B, 654x4 (rotors) = 2.6L racing engine.

26b...hehe

the only other rotary engine that can beat the 20b is the 26b...a 4 rotor...i herd it pushes up wards of 700 hp on the 787 at the 24 hour le mans race....that would be fun to have in the rx7. now only if you could figure out a way to fit it...
