what's this switch do?

i just took a bunch of pics of my car with a cell phone and wanted to document this since i already had the camera out. the switch itself is located underneath the steering wheel close to the hood release latch, while the light bulb is right around the signaler. i've flipped the switch back and forth lots of times, and it turns on/off the light. beyond that, i have no idea what it does. i did notice that when i put my keys in the ignition and flipped it on/off, i heard a brief chirp come out from under the hood, but only the first time i flicked it. after that, i kept flicking it and heard nothing.

the light

the switch...definitely custom

i know it's impossible to tell from just looking what it could do, but i was hoping maybe someone on here has a similar switch installed or maybe it's a common mod that controls the fans or something that i'm not aware of. thanks!

actually kai, it's a switch for the third turbo...

You're right it is custom. Only the previous owner should know. Have you asked him/her?

You wouldnt want to flip the switch under my dash, it turns on the line lock. Its a good theft deterent first time they hit the brakes it locks up the front solid!

Either fan mod switch or valet switch for an aftermarket car alarm. If it doesn't have an alarm, that rules #1 out .

I once rigged a switch like this to kill my brake lights so cops couldn't see me braking, back when I was young and stupid.

i used to know some people, both in FL, that had little hidden switches. They were used to "turn off" their mileage so they wouldn't go over on their lease miles.

I would say with 99.9% certainty that this is related to an after-market alarm system. You stated that you hear a chirp sound from under the hood when the switch is toggled... It's a valet switch.

almost definitely an alarm kill switch. alarm could have been taken out even and they just left the switch in. my friend's got one just like that. Follow the wires if it's hooked up and see

Most likely an alarm "disconnect" switch. Many alarms will drain the battery if they are not disconnected from the battery. This can happen even if the alarm is "off", but still connected to the battery.
