Whats the quietest midpipe

I am planning on putting a midpipe on this winter and was wondering what is the quietest? Here are the options:

1) Pettit resonated
2) Rx7 store resonated
3) Borla XR-1 custom midpipe.
4) ????

I am running stock twins, DP, Greddy Power Extreme, PFC, and a street ported motor on the way.

I really like the sound of the car right now (DP and PE), and don't want it any louder. I don't really want a high flow cat because of the performance loss.

So which one is the quietest?

If I am interpreting this right, you have a stock cat right now?

Then all those midpipes and even a high flow cat will make your car much louder, especially at WOT.

From what I've heard, all the resonated pipes seam to drone at certain RPMs.

From personally having a Borla CB, I can tell you that the Borla will quiet it down a bit and give you a kinda deep tone to it.

I have heard them all:
1) Pettit-loud
2)RX-7 store-deep healthy sound I highly recommend it.
3)Borla XR-1 louder than the RX-7 stores and not as deep.

You have heard them all with the same catback and same intake/turbo combo?

I think evaluating the different "resonated" midpipes for noise level requires a same everythingelse.

its the catback, not the midpipe that is responsible for the noise. there is no noise difference between my highflow cat or midpipe with my exhaust. When I put a straight through the Midpipe is loud as hell. Totally quiet with my HKS.

Yes I have a stock cat currently. I think that the car is pretty quiet right now. I now it is going to be louder, I just want to find the quietest.

I completely diagree with this since the main cat is the most restrictive componet of the exhaust system.

Your HKS catback must be really restrictive.

With the risk of stating the obvious, wouldn't the fact that people offer resonated or "muffled" midpipe indicate that this does effect the sound of the entire exhuast?

no. If you have an open exhaust (straight through pipe) and put a resonator on it it will be more quiet.

If you have a restrictive exhaust (I have HKS turbo catback) the resonator will make no difference. My car is very quiet and im telling you makes no more noise than my highflow cat. I had a straight though catback on it and even my highflow cat was loud as ****.

Anyone else have any input to this?

Mr rx-7 tt's-
What cat back did you hear the rx-7 store midpipe with? If this produces a deep sound, then combined with My PE it should sound sweet.

So far I am leaning towards the rx7store's resonated midpipe due to your feedback on the sound. Also the price is pretty good.

RB Dual Tip with DP and straight-through MP is not bad, but get on it, and the sound is LOUD! The smell is worse. It only take a few weeks to get acclimated though

I have not really looked into it, but is the RX-7 stores MP (#2) not resonated with a borla? So should it not sound the same(as #3)?

Shouldnt make any difference of the mid-pipe. Maybe on the gas, but not idle.

Sounds is more on your CAT-BACK or muffler. You put a silcencer in there and it makes a difference right?

We have to put our CATS back in every 2 years here for inspection. I did it hoping it would be enough to make it quieter, NOT A LICK OF DIFFERENCE

i had the pettit SS resonated...it was loud
had a straight pipe....still loud..infact just a bit a louder than the pettit
i have a VRS muffelled midpipe now..better but still loud.

i use the apexi gt spec exhaust. and its loud. my friend uses the same vrs midpipe with his greddy exhaust and its a so much quieter...you would swer his car sounded almost stock. anyways i believe the catback makes all the difference

It was with the same car, no changes at all.

The catback makes a difference only if it is restrictive.

You can run a stock cat with a downpipe and a straight pipe for a catback and it will not be loud.

It was with a Peter Farrell dp and Peter Farrell catback which is considered very loud. Jason's (RX-7 Store) midpipe was deeper and just as quiet as a the bonez high flow cat. The Borla was 30% louder and the midpipe and Pettit resonated midpipe was ticket loud...

I have a DP, MP with a RB Catback... not too loud until WOT. When I put the stock main cat on every other year, there is definitely a difference in the noise level.

It is also going to depend on what size and shape borla muffler was used....

I used to have a Bonez HF Cat

I now use a Borla XR-1 16" long oval sportsman muffler and at Idle it sounded pretty much the same as the Bonez. It has a little more drone during cruise, but nothing terrible at all.

The loudest my car ever was was when I was on the stock twins. I put a straight MP on after cutting the door out of my manifold to run non-sequentially. At idle and just light driving it was ridiculously loud...

I was running the same catback with all of these changes - Blitz Nur Spec

That is a lousy reason to not want a HF cat. The difference between a HF cat and a mid pipe will be at most 5 HP which will mean a 0.01 second difference at the strip, but the sound difference can be huge (plus your car wont smell like *** to everybody behind you).
