I wonder if the airport i work at will let me use a runway for a highspeed run..!!
"Vancouver Tower this is Foxtrot Delta Three Seirra"
"Foxtrot Delta Three Seirra, Vancouver Tower.."
"Vancouver Tower.. request runway 34 for highspeed run."
"Foxtrot Delta Three Seirra, Roger"
"Winds One Eight Zero at six, altimeter two niner niner seven"
"Vancouver Tower... roger, departing runway... (obnoxious noise break transmition).. WATTTTTTTTTTT PSHHHHH!!!!"
Hmmm, if top gear can rent an airstrip...

this is a scary thread. To thoose of you taking your GF's and best freinds with you while you do 180mph on public roads, please stop. Imagine the feeling of killing your freind during a wreck and its all your fault. Ive been there and its a horrible trip. Top speed is not worth death. And no im not some ***** who bought and rx-7 and doesnt go past the speedlimit, but I speak from experience and it is a UNIMAGINEABLE FEELING, but just because its unimagineable doesnt mean it wont become a reality.

That would be so badass if you could do that

My FD has only seen about 135mph.. now my GSXR600 saw about 155, and my RC51 saw about 170 and both bikes were as smooth and as solid as could be. I DO agree with evo2 on this one. If you are going to be doing high speed runs (100+mph) please do it alone.. Even if they beg to go with you. That is just not something you want to go the rest of your life dealing with should something happen.

I have been about 180 or so as read off the speedo, stock rims 225/5016ZR, kinda hard to get a good look at the speedo at that speed. The bike behind me was showing 178 on his digital speedo and I was pulling on him. I pray nothing goes wrong at those speeds, i don't think I would know it, it would just be over...
Been 172 on a GSXR-6, at night. whoa... that was crazy. Much different than a car.

WoW there are some crazy speeds on here. I have been seen about 152 on my dash before i had to keep my eyes glued to the road. But i slowed down within a seconds after that. hwy 94 doesn't go very straight were I am.

I have been up to about 150mph, or about 240kph. I was motivated by the Lamborghini Gallardo behind me, but then he passed me at something like 170mph. So that ended it pretty quick. (Yes I was alone) Does anyone know what speed is physically possible for a stock tranny and rear end FD to do at 7000 rpm, granted it had enough power?

nice post from jimlab about speed/hp/ 1/4 / etc
thought i would give it a bump

Nope.
Let's start with a stock ~220 RWHP car with stock tires.*
220 RWHP - 0-60: 5.27 1/4: 13.97 @ 100.86 Top: 169.56 mph
Upgrade to P275/40-17s in the back (arguably the most popular size) and you get the following:*
220 RWHP - 0-60: 5.43 1/4: 14.00 @ 100.38 Top: 162.43 mph
240 RWHP - 0-60: 5.09 1/4: 13.67 @ 103.01 Top: 175.86 mph
260 RWHP - 0-60: 4.78 1/4: 13.35 @ 105.84 Top: 179.91 mph
280 RWHP - 0-60: 4.50 1/4: 13.05 @ 108.64 Top: 183.41 mph
300 RWHP - 0-60: 4.32 1/4: 12.82 @ 111.24 Top: 186.52 mph
320 RWHP - 0-60: 4.20 1/4: 12.63 @ 113.61 Top: 189.33 mph
340 RWHP - 0-60: 4.08 1/4: 12.44 @ 116.01 Top: 191.83 mph
360 RWHP - 0-60: 4.01 1/4: 12.28 @ 118.21 Top: 194.12 mph
380 RWHP - 0-60: 3.89 1/4: 12.10 @ 120.51 Top: 196.18 mph
400 RWHP - 0-60: 3.81 1/4: 11.95 @ 122.66 Top: 198.10 mph
* Before anyone says "wait a minute...", here are the parameters that these numbers are based on...
1. 2,850 lb. curb weight
2. 0.29 coefficient of drag
3. Typical stock twin power curve
4. 2,000 rpm launch
5. Street tires
Basically, if any of these variables are changed, the numbers change. A lighter car will be quicker and have a higher top speed. Changing the power curve (i.e. single turbo) will obviously change the numbers. Launching at higher rpm on slicks or drag radials will result in lower E.T. in the quarter mile. Changing the differential gear ratio changes the numbers. In other words, changing almost anything changes the numbers.
The numbers are merely representative of what a stock twin RX-7 with P275/40-17 street tires could be capable of.
Note that the stock 220 RWHP car is slower with P275/40-17s... part of that is the increased weight of the tire and wheel, but more importantly, that added weight is located farther from the center of the wheel, making it more difficult to accelerate the mass. As you can see, an extra 20 RWHP overcomes it easily.
Waiting on the engine builder to have time to dedicate a day or two to final tuning of my engine in the dyno cell right now, and there are several other things that I'm waiting on, not to mention that the car will be painted next month, hopefully.
Just for comparison, here are the numbers Car Test is giving me for my car on P275/40-17 street tires with a 2,800 lb. curb weight, Borg Warner "G92" T56 6-speed (Z06 gear ratios), and 2.80 ring and pinion in the differential, and a 1,000 rpm launch. Nope, that's not a typo.
570 RWHP - 0-60: 2.85 1/4: 10.97 @ 139.09 Top: 238.96 mph

Japan has a real lack of roads that are either straight and dont have a billion cars on them. So ive only ever done about 60mph or 100kmh, doesnt sound like much, but i still enjoy my car, i dont have any need to go really fast.

Back in 2001 I did 137 up in WA state on the way back from Portland. Yeaaah...that was scary enough for me. Haven't done that since.
Well, mostly because I live in Hawaii, I'm not that stupid anymore, and my car only recently was put back together.
It's too easy to die on a freeway...I'd take it to the track, but ours was closed only recently.

You can call BS all you want but friend went 203mph on the way back from Oregon...farther down that road he got pulled over for 180 or something like that. Big no-no.
