that's the usdm badge iirc, it's very popular to change them out.

The spade shaped one is the USDM badge, it's the same badge that you'll find on a similar year Protege or 626, etc. It's very popular to swap that badge out for the efini badges.

There's no difference between the trim levels other than the fact that the some of the later FD models (R, RZ?) had different turbos and made 280ps factory instead of 255 like all of the usdm models. (we call them '99 twins)

I think *maybe* the last models 99-02 or the mazdaspeed cars may have shipped with the flying m badge. someone more jdm than me will have to help me out though.

EDIT: To further complicate things there's also the Spirit R (JDM)

and the bathurst but i don't think the bathurst cars had special badges. very few of them were made- it would be easier to find a kidney on the black market than find an authentic bathurst for sale. you won't find one in the states.

It is called "eternal flame" and was Mazda's emblem before the "flying wing" emblem was adopted.
Personally, I like it the best. To me, putting the Efini badge on is false advertising and pretty much in the same league as window decals for your 'NOS'....lol!
