Whats better WRX or Rx7??
Hey people. Im 16 rite now, and I'm planning on getting a used WRX or Rx7. What would be better? Theres word out that the Subaru trannies are weak. But also, people say that the rotaries are easier to blow. Wat would be better? I need to drive it everyday, and race almost every week. Planning to run low 13's.

GET THE WRX
I would get the WRX RX-7's are great and Hella fast. But if you don't have money to play with....not good for everyday. Unless you can do the work yourself. It's not hard but it can be.

i'm 16 and my 7 is my daily driver, its about how comfortable you feel driving (not necessarily racing) and how much money you're bringing in for yourself at 16 to be able to take care of the car and its needs. on rainy days i wish i had a WRX in the garage before i leave in the morning

There was another thread on this topic not long ago. I happen to have one of each. The RX-7 is my track car and the WRX is my daily driver.
The RX-7 does good on the track with little or no modification. The WRX is a good all around car but would need a lot of suspension work before getting on a race track. I have heard about people having trouble with the WRX tranny while drag racing. I don't drag race either car so if that is what you are interested in somebody else might have better information.
Both are fun cars but I think there is less potential high dollar maintenance with a WRX for cars that are driven the same way.

Go with the WRX, especially since you have to drive it everyday, sunshine or snow.... You're 16 so I don't know if insurence will be any different, but it would be also cheaper to upgrade and maintain, plus you can wow 3 of you buddies instead of just one.

I test drove a WRX and its a fun car to throw around. You won't be disapointed in it. However I personally think the seven owns it in every aspect. But I was 16, a wrx would suit my *** fine. I like wrx's. I'd like to have one. As a daily driver

I've got a 2.5RS and it's a great everyday car. I'd imagine that the WRX would be even more fun, and with the AWD, someone of your age, with your (lack of) experience in driving, the WRX is *definitely* a more intelligent choice.
Besides that, when was the last time you saw someone rally race an rx7?

I don't want to sound like a d!ck, however, at your age you really can't handle an RX-7. Sorry, but there really isn't a nice way to put it. Even when I was your age I knew I couldn't handle a sports car. Is it impossible that you can handle a sports car? No, however, you will most likely crash it within a month. Also, if you don't have money than the RX-7 is definitely not for you.

The only think thats making me think of not getting a WRX is the tranny. I hear that it can't take abuse like other trannies ie. Toyota, Honda. 4WD and drag racing is prone to blown trannies. In some cases, stock WRX's have broken gears. While others say they have 350+ hp, and the tranny is holding up fine.

The tranny on my 2.5RS has been pretty bulletproof, and I really drive it pretty hard. I've had no problems with it, and I imagine that the tranny for the WRX's is either the same or better. Don't sweat the tranny thing...they're easy to fix if they get broken. Engines aren't as easy, and they sure do cost more.
At any rate, if you're 16, I can't possibly imagine that you'll do much damage to a WRX tranny unless you're out racing all the time, in which case after you get your first 2-3 tickets, you'll slow down and your tranny will last

I agree with the WRX as well. I too own both an FD and a WRX and both are fantastic cars. But for practicality (passengers, cargo, whatever), cost, everyday driving around town, and safety, the Subaru is the way to go.
I'd have counted myself as very lucky to have owned a WRX as my first car. Great fun at the autoX as well. Just get some new tires and you're set until you want to get serious on the mods (hint: do your suspension first).
Good luck with whatever you decide.
