If you want to port your car then just get a streetport from a reputable place. Just realize that you won't be getting full usage of ANY porting if you stay with twins, due to the exhaust manifold.

gt35r might be a Little small for reliable 500hp. you might want to look into gt35/40r or gt40r. don't get me wrong people are making those #'s on a 35, but it's asking a lot of the turbo and the tuner. i'm making 440hp on pump gas on a gt40r. looking for 600 when I turn the wick up.

What is your definition of a race port? There are many different style ports and each engine builder does it a little differently. My definition of a race port would be my stage 3 or larger port. Idle quality suffers slightly the larger you go. A bridge port or p port would also be a race port to me. A 35R works well with a medium to large street port. It is really too small of a turbo to efficiently support a bridge. 500hp is going to be tough with that turbo. It has been done, but will be at the edge of its efficiency range. I did 476 with about 20-21 psi boost with an aggressive tune and large street port quite a few years ago, but I wouldn't set up a customer's car that way. Someone else on here broke 500. If you are set on that power number, I would step up to a 500r or 40r turbo.
Also, a streetport definitely has its benefits even with the stock turbos and manifold. I like to do a mild to medium port, no larger with that kind of setup.

it all depends guys. see a power fc powered car can make 500 but only with a large street port now if you get a autronic ecu like a sm2 version if you can find one with a rotary chip if not the new sm4 is the way to go. no with a autronic or motec you can make 500 on stock ports. the autronic tuning is so versitile its totally worth every penny. you can get over 700 out of autronic on stock ports. i have found the sm2 for 1400 brand new.

why get a 35r and push it to its limits tryin to get 500hp. pushing that turbo to its limits causes lots of heat to be made in the engine bay and sucked into the engine and wears down the reliability of the turbo so y not go 42r which is def capable of 500 easily and not as laggy and will never force hot air becuase you wouldnt have to over work it to get 500hp.. im no expert but isnt that true

I think a t78 is too old school tech(20 year old engineering) and the 42r is a Little overkill for the #'s you are looking for, the 42 is a good turbo but a little laggy for just 500hp. if your looking for 600+ it's for u. for those #'s i think 35/40r, 40r, 500r and I'm sure there is 5 or 10 more that can do it, but the ones I mentioned are more modern tech.

EXAMPLE: You take a 93 RX7 with a gt35r and tune it to 11.5:1 AFR at 15 psi with a 15 degree lead advance and a 10 degree trailing split with a PFC say it made 400hp, you then take the same exact car and tune it with a motec, autoronic , or a NASA space station to the same 11.5 AFR, 15 psi, 15*IGL, & 10*IGT split it's going to make the same power.

To the OP, a gt35r is a good street turbo and spools fast. It runs out of efficiency at around 20 psi, on a good port that will put you in the 450-475 range. Which is a lot of power in these cars, it's hard to make use of much more then that especially on the drag strip A cheaper alternative would be a t60-1 which is similar in size but not dual BB.. If you really want more power then that then a larger turbo is better suited, dual BB will help if lag is a concern. Something like a gt40r would work well. If cost is an issue then a t60-2 can make right around 500 in the 20 psi area while still being fairly decent on spool. Or a t66 is a bit larger and should work as well, also being non BB. I'm running a masterpower t71 that i like. It will make a lot of power and move a lot of air, but it is a bit laggy. They also have some other options that are just a little smaller that should peak at around 500 hp. The cost on these turbos is really great. A t78 will make the power but it really is on the laggy side. Some people are okay with that, but personally I don't think I could stand any more lag then what I have with mine.
Keep in mind that running much over 15 psi, it's highly advised to run aux injection, race fuel, or E85 unless you're okay with a blown engine.

The original post in this thread is a perfect example of what NOT to post.
Don't waste everyone's time asking broad questions that show an obvious lack of research and all around laziness. We shouldnt have to ask you ten questions just to figure out what you mean......ie, what is a 'race port,' what do you mean by 'better,' etc etc.
Also, who is rebuilding your motor? why not ask them? if they're not qualified or don't know the info, maybe they're the wrong person for the job.
Maybe I'm just grumpy this morning, but let's not turn this into a VTEC HS forum guys
