what is wrong with my power windows switch *PIC*

inside the black circle, it appears something got burnt cause the plastic has a burn mark around it.

the drivers side window goes down but it doesnt go up.

the passenger side works fine and the drivers side only goes down. well... it cant go down anymore than it already is haha.

i dont think the motor is broken, just the switch. i know to buy a new switch board, but is there a quick like ghetto fix to fix this? like jummp the drivers side from the passenger side? im in an area where robberies happen all the time and my window is down right now.

The window motors are really hardy - the switches take the brunt of the abuse. The motors simply work by reversing polarity - put positive on one wire and negative on the other, window goes down. Swap wires, window goes up.

The FD window switches aren't super hardy - the plastic does break over time. I have seen some literally falling apart.

When you stuck the wire in, it probably went between the two contact surfaces that make the window go up, doing the same thing as pressing the switch down.

P.S If you decide to dismantle it be careful not to loose a tiny metal ball thats sits inside there...

My only reccomendations are to get a plastic bag and some tape. My driver's side switch broke and needed to be replaced and I had to do this for a while.

Check your fuses really quickly. It's possible by ******* with the switch you could have blown a fuse.

Other than that, I'm with Elegant, get bags and some tape for the time being.

There should be a fuse just for the power windows next to the clutch pedal - start there.

If the switch is totally busted/useless, get out the shop manual and look at the wiring to the window switch. Some jumper wires and you can jump power to the window motor and get the window back up.

I believe the last time i was in the position you were in, i just disconnected the plug to the connector and then added power by getting some wires and connecting them to a power source, if you connect them the right way the window will roll right up....this is what i did from what i remember so you can try that in your need of desperation.
