What would these mods cost in the US
I've seen on this forum people talking about the cost of a rebuild in the US running at something like $5,000. I've just been looking through an article on tuning FDs in an Australian magazine and have found this package available at one of Australia's top rotary tuning shops.
- Rebuild and street port engine (with warranty)
- Microtech LTX-8 ECU
- 3" sports exhaust
- high-flow turbos
- front mount intercooler
- boost controller
- Turbosmart Type II blow-off valve,
- upgraded fuel system
- re-map ECU on chassis dyno
- inclusive of all parts and labour
cost $8650 Aust $ (approx $US5560)
These mods will apparently take the RWHP to 240 hp on low boost and 290 hp at 15psi
What would it cost to have this type of work done in the US?

Rebuild + streeport is ~$2000. That's w/o the engine pull + reinstall.
But, by the looks of it, I think that package includes the engine remove and reinstall because the tune it for you. They gotta put the engine back in to dyno it and tune it.
Engine R+R is like ~$1500.
Front mounts go for at least $1000. ECU is probably another $1000. Check the rx7store for price comparisons.
All in all, I think that's a pretty good deal. They do everything for you and have it running a lot better than before.

The low hp figures might be because the 93-95 Aust delivered cars (all 5 speeds) only came with 235 hp at the flywheel translating to about 165 hp at the rear wheels. This would be about the same as US spec autos. From what I've read on the forum your 5 speeds are about 250 at the flywheel.
If the power difference in the standard setups is caused by anything other than the ECU or the other things that are being upgraded this might explain it

Re: What would these mods cost in the US
Here is what these mods would cost in the states....
$2800- Rebuild and street port engine (with warranty)
$1200- Microtech LTX-8 ECU (but PFC)
$1000- 3" sports exhaust
$2000- high-flow turbos
$850- front mount intercooler
$50-$400- boost controller (depends on what kind)
$250- Turbosmart Type II blow-off valve, (decent bov)
$500- upgraded fuel system (what do they upgrade)
$500- re-map ECU on chassis dyno
who knows- inclusive of all parts and labour
cost $8650 Aust $ (approx $US5560)
The only problem I see with thier "set up" and what you would get here in the states, is the mods listed above and tuned would be worth OVER 400rwhp tuned. They only say 290hp, so I dont know what the deal is there.

The diff in HP#s could be that they are quoting JIS/DIN HP#s not SAE, the two are slightly different with the SAE HP represent slightly LESS work hense producing a LARGER HP# for the same engine.
