I hate to see your car end up this way. It was flawless both times I'd seen it earlier this year. The insurance company will try to run you through the ringer and get off paying out the least amount of money that they can. It took three months to get my wife's Mazda 6i back in the driveway after it was stolen and the insurance company dicked around trying to decided what they were going to cover. Good luck with the repairs.

i honestly don't think it's that bad. Can you tell if the damage got into any of the rear quarter panels or not? A new hatch, rear bumper and lights and you'll be straight. Now if It got into the rear quarters, ehm, you might be in trouble.

Insurance companies are the biggest scammers. Pay your bills on time and they dick you over when it's time for them to pay up. Annoys the crap outta me.

scratch that I see that it did get into the driver side a bit... they might be able to bang that out....

Good luck and let us know how it goes. Worst case scenerio is they total the car. Least everyone walked away.

man that is horrible. this FD is pretty much one of the nicest ive seen in person. I hope you get reimbursed for all the damage, but honestly, it doesnt look good, especially if the drivers door doesnt close right anymore. that sucks huge

Ok so I got an estimate and they are wanting to repair the 1/4 panel. They say that it would be too expensive to cut out and put a new one on and that the Ins. company would flag it based on the photos. That 1/4 has been hit before... I want a new one; I don't feel like it would be safe to have it just "fixed" again. Can I force them to put a new one on? Anyone know?

ow. well those dont look like real 99 lights, are they? thats something.

i just went throught his ****, not the 7 thank heavens, but it was a truck i had only had for 2 weeks when it got nailed. my insurance company was alright as far as the repairs they did ask me where i wanted it taken. took care of it. they just finsished it finally today. so from MY experience it wasnt too bad to deal with, but with aftermarket stuff it might get tricky. and with mine it was easy to replace the quarter section considering the whole bedside can just be unbolted and replaced.

sucks man. i got tapped once in my 3rd gen, no damage but this guy was so dumb i let him have it royally. in front of his family, kids, and neighbors. hahaha no mercy. he backed right into me, after just randomly stopping. gah i couldnt deal with this stuff if it was one of the cars i cared about. gl.

I don't think you can compel them to replace the quarter. I'm sure the bodyshop would replace it if you paid the difference although it wouldn't be cost effective, which is why the bodyshop is going to repair rather than replace.

I just went through a similar ordeal, only it was my daily driver Chev Sprint turbo so lesser values involved.

The way it worked for me was the beer truck hit me and dented the rear hatch.
His insurance had me take it to a body shop and get an estimate.
Estimate came in at $1100
Insurance had an appraiser come look at the car, he told them $700
Insurance tells me if estimate is more than 70% of appraised value they total the car, this is because there can be hidden damage that shows up later
I tell them $700 is BS! Try to find a Sprint turbo for that!
they have me send in a bunch of ebay completed ads and autotrader ads, all the ads I could find averaged about $1600
insurance company didnt like that they couldnt total the car with that value, so they did an autotrader search and included non-turbo models which go for $500
Miraculously the turbo models were expensive enough that the average still was like $1300 so they reluctantly cut me a check for $1100, but I had to sign a waiver that I wouldnt come back for more if any more damage was found. My car still has a clean title.

Moral to the story is the insurance company will try to screw you. Make sure you know what the car is worth and dont accept any offer they give until you are happy with it.

I feel your pain man... Actually I've felt it three times last year (all of them just as bad as yours). It never gets any easier.

Just be cautious of your 96+ tails. They will most likely try to low ball you and price you aftermarket reproductions of ORIGINAL tails (not 96’s). That’s what they did to me.

I had to argue that there are no aftermarket replacements (im not talking altezzas I’m talking about OEM aftermarket reproductions). After going back and forth for a while I challenged them to go ahead an find me a replacement… Yeah a couple of days later they paid for a new 96+.

Ouch man. That is hard to look at. One thing you do need to do, is open and close your passenger door. It should obviously open and close fine, if not, the car is done. My old FD was hit the same way, at a little higher speeds, and for sure some more damage. But because of the angle, and not a straight on hit it bent my frame very badly. Hope this is not the case. Best of luck with it.

Sorry to see that, but if you're looking for replacement parts, complete hatch and rear bumper (same color), I got a spare.

I'm new to this website and can't send PM as yet. Only problem is that I live in Hawaii, shipping sucks unless you got friends in the military?

Anyways, I don't need it and will part it for what I bought it for

First, it is not your fault because you are hit from the back. I'm pretty sure that guys insurance will pay for all the damages. You should of called the cops and gotten the report. Anyway, far as car goes take it to best shop there is. That little door problem is not small as most people think. It should be covered by other party's insurance so it doesn't matter how much estimate comes out to be, just take it to best shop.
