What is up With People Trying to Buy Our Cars?
I remember when I had only had my FD for about 2 weeks and I was at an autoparts store getting some oil and one of the assitant managers saw it outside and went for a look, came back in and said he wanted to buy it. He asked how much and since I had never thought about it, I just added a couple thousand to what I paid for it so if he did buy it, I would be ahead for the next one and maybe could afford one with some more mods. So I told him that I would sell it for "16". I figure if I could flip it and make a couple grand to go into the next one, why the hell not.
Long story short and I'm sure you already see this coming, but he showed up at my shop, with $1,600 the next day
The look on his face when I said "No, 16 THOUSAND, not 16 hundred" was priceless.
Not like 16k is alot of money, but WTF did he really think 1600 was going to get him. A ragged out 87 accord goes for more than that.

This is not shown by any of the price guides. Most FD's go in the teens. Some better examples go in the 20's, but they are exceptional and few and far between. Furthermore, many of these cars have been hacked up in the name of "modification." My point stands: the prices of FD's are NOT escalating. Are you seeing cars going for prices in the upper 20's and low 30's as opposed to the prices of 6 mos. or a year ago? You are not.
I always say, "the car is not for sale" and they always badger me and then I say, "No less than $40K" and they are like laughing and say, "no really, what will you take?" and I repeat, "It takes $40K to get me to even THINKING about selling. Seriously."
And as stated above, they usually try to change the subject pretty quickly...lol!

Exactly.
As I say, every so often I toy with them. Even $25k or $30k is enough for them to change the subject. There's an old saying, "Money talks, s**t walks." There's a lot of walking around these cars.
But it's meant as a compliment in a way. Nobody bothers to offer remarks or sales inquiries about 99% of the cars out there. It's a way of engaging you as they check out your car.
I always have people asking if im selling it or where they can go to get one.
My car is stock looking. Its just dropped on black painted stockers with a 99 lip.
I guess people appreciate a well taken care car. Especially if it looks good and rare which our cars are.

I've only had my FD for about a month, but I have never owned a car where I get bi-weekly offeres to buy it.
My neighbor, random guy on the street, Eclipse at the stop light, peole keep offering me money for this thing. I used to hafe an FC and I can't remember getting offeres. My F*ck me red FD with the wing seems to get so may suiters. IS this normal? Obviously, I am not interested in selling, but I guess it is nice to know that there is a market for it. I guess part of it is that they are kind of rare and the only time many people have actually seen one was when they were at NOPI or the drag strip.
The other thing is, no one wants to race it. Even when I raced my friends modded VR-4, he had lost before he had started as he was so sure an FD would beat him.
Post some of you experiences with random people offering to buy your FD.

Again at the house I stayed in while living in Miami for awhile had my car parked for weeks at a time without ever moving it,folks I stayed with told me people constantly came around asking if the car was for sell. One time some kid just showed up asking for the owner of the RX-7 and asked me if I would trade it for his 02 WRX.Everyone says that it's a unique and uncommon car to see on the street that's what I love about the RX-7
That I got alot of when my FD was running never gave tha A-holes the time of day though, wasn't interested in wasting my time with some ricer or wrecking my car in the process!
last weekend at the autocross in SD i had a rich lookin dude in a AMG mercedes ask me if i was selling the car. i gave him a big
and said no. this is my dream car, i dont plan on selling it, rather i plan on buying another one!

What aggrivates me is all of the douches down here (MS Gulf Coast) that say "HEY LET ME BUY YOUR CAR AND PUT AN LS1 IN IT!". They don't care what it is, they just know it's small ls1's make descent power. And I mean descent. Sorry for the small rant, I just think LS1 RX7's defeat the purpose of the car...
+1 to the ls1, every time i tell someone i need a rebuild they say just put a ls1 in it and then you won't have to worry about it so much...but that's not the point!!! people just don't get it
Meh, i barely had my FD 2 days before i was getting offers.
I went to the grocery store in it once (not the best grocery getter but damn) i was inside for... about 15 minutes and when i came outside, there was a small crowd gathered around it, staring at it. Had three guys offer me money for it, had one guy offer me his bike.
Even had one guy offer to build me a full STi Verion 5 build including RHD for it.

I'm glad that I live where I do and that my car is black. I get so little attention ... it's truly great. The FD gets lost in a sea of exotics and things German. Cops don't pay me any attention, either, because they're used to seeing 911s, Aston Martins, and Ferraris regularly ... and I mean regularly (particularly the Porsches). It wasn't like this when I had the car at school in North Carolina, where yes, offers were routine.

Ken, your car barely looks stock...of course people are going to wonder wth it is. only thing stock on it is the taillights, headlights, and door. Everything else has been massaged to your liking!
I use to get alot of notes on my red FD when I bought it back in 2000. It's slowed down some. It worked out well when I use to flip FD's... esp. when I was driving one that I was selling
Now I just point them to my good friend David @ www.speedforsale.com
BTW, like what Ken was saying... I use to get ppl asking "what the hell is this thing?" due to my car not having any identifying marks. I came up with some pretty off the wall stories... "Why yes, it is a new car. Dodge just released 250 limited edition 2000 Mini Vipers" haha. My stories only got more out of control after that... wanted to push the envelope to see how much I could get away with

I tell you what does bother me now that I think about it. Everytime someone walks up to me to tell me nice car(which I appreciate), it always turns into "yeah, my other car is an RX-7" Followed by it has 800hp blah blah blah. I didn't realize there were so many 800hp RX-7's out there. *rolls eyes*
I have a few guys at work who have offered to buy my FD the first day I took it to work, pretty much said they would take it off my hands if I ever wanted to sell it. Had a used car dealer approach me at a gas station and gave me his card saying they will pay top dollar if I ever want to sell it. It's good to know that I could sell it quick if I ever needed to.
Two minutes after I bought my car, I stopped at a gas station to fill up for the long drive back home...bought her from the original owner in Seattle. As soon as I started filling the tank, a guy comes up and ask me what the FD was and if it was an 2007, when I told him it was a 94 RX7...he was floored! He said he had never seen a 3rd gen RX7 before.
I own Redline Motorsports, we work on Porsche and Ferrari motorcars...so every once awhile I get to test drive some pretty amazing cars which draws a lot of attention, my FD does the same...which is pretty amazing for a 14 year old Japanese car.
The original owner and I still e-mail, he says he wishes that he never sold the car...he hates is wife for making him! LOL!

It also depends alot on how your car looks. If they think they can afford it, then most likely they will ask you if you want to sell it. Other times, they just want to know how much it's worth.
It's never fast enough...

I remember a few years back...I took her into a high school car wash. The kids were doing about 3 cars when I pulled in. Suddenly, they were all washing my car. The owners of the other cars had a nice big WTF look on their faces.
