What is up With People Trying to Buy Our Cars?

I've only had my FD for about a month, but I have never owned a car where I get bi-weekly offeres to buy it.

My neighbor, random guy on the street, Eclipse at the stop light, peole keep offering me money for this thing. I used to hafe an FC and I can't remember getting offeres. My F*ck me red FD with the wing seems to get so may suiters. IS this normal? Obviously, I am not interested in selling, but I guess it is nice to know that there is a market for it. I guess part of it is that they are kind of rare and the only time many people have actually seen one was when they were at NOPI or the drag strip.

The other thing is, no one wants to race it. Even when I raced my friends modded VR-4, he had lost before he had started as he was so sure an FD would beat him.

Post some of you experiences with random people offering to buy your FD.

They're rare cars. When I first bought my R1 and it was completely stock, I'd get offers occasionally. Now that she's loud as hell, stinks to high and spits flames, for some reason the offers have stopped

I think your car just looks pricy. My car sometimes chokes me when I am idling at a stop light with a back wind. With a straight through exhaust, it is not exactly quiet either.

about a couple weeks after i bought my FD i went to go eat at a denny's in town. i sit next to a window where my car was parked just a few feet away outside and later on i see some big dude walking around it eyeballing it.

he comes into the restaurant and somehow magically knew i was the owner and approached me to buy it without hesitation upon introducing himself. i didnt even bother to ask him what he was going to offer, my dream car isnt for sale.

I bought my car from another forum member that did not register it in his name, so technically I'm the 2nd owner.

with all the paperwork that came with the car from the original owner, an e-mail address was found quite easily.

I emailed the original owner, and thanked him for taking such great care of hte car.

we e-mailed back and forth through out the weekend, he said it was one of the biggest mistakes he has ever made (selling his FD)

we still talk occasionally.

He offers to buy back the car (about once a month)

he originally freaked out when I told him I was modifying the car (he is a purest)

it has been an ongoing conversation for the last year (My modifications)

we agree to disagree on certain things, but after all IT IS NOW MY CAR.

when it is coming together, I will call him in advance. this way he can come to Portland, Oregon for the first key turn party (just hope it starts... lol)

and I will take him out for his first ride in a modifyied FD3S rx-7.

I think it will be a great source of closure for him, and also might convince him to find himself another FD.

I drove to chicago from mid michigan to get my car. On the way back me and my buddy stopped at an Applebees and i had a guy offer me 14,000, i paid 10,800 and had owned the car for less than 6 hours. Was surprisingly easy to turn down a 3,200 profit. Since then i have had dozens of offers.

Yeah, I get that too. But I don't think they're serious offers to buy. I think people are really saying something else. They're tempting themselves and expressing an impulse or a desire. Every once in a while I test them. "OK, $30,000 cash." Suddenly a different look comes over their face. They don't say, "Well, I might go $22k." They change the subject and start talking about something else.

With an usual or fast looking car the questions are usually the same:

1) What is it? (If they don't already know.)

2) How fast does it go?

3) How much does it cost?

If there really was such a strong desire to buy FD's you'd see a constantly escalating price. But that's not what you're seeing in the market place.

I've owned a 87' 944 Turbo, 02' Boxster, and an 02' BMW M3. None of those cars turned heads like my 93' RX7 or got so many questions. My seven year old daughter made us laugh the other day when she asked "Daddy, why does everybody roll down their window and talk to you when we ride in your race car?" She calls it a race car......I love it.

I have gone into convenient stores and come out to find someone taking pictures of it with their cell phone camera. This has happened several, several times. Blows my mind.

I bought my FD about a month ago from a guy a few hours away. On the way home after I had owned it maybe 4hrs I was gassing up and two guys in a chevy pick up swiftly pulled up beside me and asked if I wanted to sell it. I said "I just bought it today, and I have some plans for her"... Then is was the usual what's done to it, how fast is it, are you putting an ls1 in it? etc. I do notice alot of attention when driving around...

I always say, "the car is not for sale" and they always badger me and then I say, "No less than $40K" and they are like laughing and say, "no really, what will you take?" and I repeat, "It takes $40K to get me to even THINKING about selling. Seriously."
And as stated above, they usually try to change the subject pretty quickly...lol!

When I had my cym FD a year or so ago I got LOTS of attention! I really couldent bring it anywhere without having random people ask the usual questions. On another note when i picked up my TII a few weeks ago I had this honda full of kids in front of me waiving their hands at me (I thought to look at my friends evo) but it was really for him to get out of the way so they could snap a few pics of me!
