What type of intake do i have?
I just got this FD, and i was hoping you guys could help me out.
What brand intake is this? HKS?
and will it work with putting in an XS power SMIC or will there not be enough clearance?
THANKS in advance, i really appreciate it!

That's the older HKS Mega Flow Intake. I ran it for several years:

I still have the intake, but I went a different route after I blew that engine:

Yes, the brown valves leading back into your intake path are your blow off valves. One is the ABV (Air Bypass Valve which is your primary BOV) and the other is the CRV (Charge Relief Valve which works similar to a BOV but for a different function on this car).

I think you need to switch your coolant caps around. The pressure cap should be on the AST, and the un-sprung cap on the filler neck.
Also search the stickys for reliability mods. It will include replacing that AST with an all-metal variety.

I had HKS SMF intakes on my FD when I got it. I quickly ditched them for some polished IRP intakes. They're much much better looking, they eliminate the soft pipes, and they use K&N filters, so I trust them much more than the mushrooms.
im deciding between the alum. ast or a eliminator kit. not sure yet which to get!
The intake is fine but you need to make sure the filters are oiled. If they aren't oiled, it will let smaller dust particles through the engine. Foam based filters must be oiled to trap those kinds of particles. This is the main reason foam filters get such a bad reputation as no one but the motorcycle guys actually know how to use them.

so i can put two BOV's on this car or just one for the ABV?
is the ABV more toward the front of the car? or is the CRV closer to the front?
thanks again mahjik!
Thanks.
Nope, just replace the ABV. The CRV has slightly different operating parameters so you should leave it alone.
The ABV is the closest one to the air filters. Each valve has a sticker on it that says which one it is.

I've been reading about AST elimination or aluminum AST and I haven't decided what to do. Any suggestions?
