What are these? Things on the bumper

Just trying to figure out what these things are called and if they serve any actual purpose other than looks. Anyone know anything about them? Do they just attach to any bumper? Where to get them? Thanks!

The are called DIVE PLANES or Wisker's
The generate DOWNFORCE and improve Brake cooling- the generate a LOW pressure at the wheel opening that draws hot air out of the wheel wells in addition to providing down force.

Interesting that they are used to help cool down the brakes. It does make sense though. They are a little on the expensive side though, considering what they are. Are they universal to any type of bumper, such as the stock one?

APR Performance www.aprperformance.com is marketing a set of canards that appear to be generic enough to be adapted to most cars and are probably less expensive than the RE ones.

Lightbulb

No, no, no... The questions is, do you want function or form?

On a good looking and modded fd, they might add that aggressive touch to scare some ricers away.

There is a DIY article in last month's Carboy magazine. Unfortunately I can't read kanji, but the pictures are self explanatory. Basically make some templates out of cardboard and then cut the pieces from aluminum sheet stock. Form them to the desired shape, paint if desired, and bolt them on.

I would use them knowing they have a function, ie. cooling the brakes. Not that I would 'always' need them for my normal city driving but it would be nice for the occasional sprited race and track days I would not buy them just for looks if they had no functional purpose.

The canards function to generate a vortex that supposedly reduce drag by reducing pressure built up in the wheel well or under the car. Not sure, but I think Ferrari or McLaren in the 50's or 60's tried this and it worked even though they thought that it was ugly as hell.

yellow bumper

that bumper looks like it might be the feed unit. I really like it tho. those things on the sides surve as downforce to limit the amount of air going under the car. If you look under race cars they are completely covered under the car, this speeds up the air that goes under there and thus creates less drag.
