what is this on the strut towers??

Can someone tell me what this stuff is? Looks like RTV almost on both strut towers.. there's also a drill hole on the driver side in the pic..a t advice would be appreciated. Is that rtv looking stuff there from factory? What about that hole? Much appreciated!

That is the factory applied seam sealer. Many moons ago i worked in a body shop. We used to try and replicate the oem sealer on repairs.

I've actually wondered about this in the past as well. My engine bay while painted black has some rather interesting yellow-white color that's been exposed over time in these areas. the car is going to be repainted here, fairly soon. But, is there any way to remove or hide all the random curves and such that this seam sealer creates? to make it flat and consistent, or be rid of it entirely?

Ahh, okay, that makes sense. What about that drill hole in my strut tower, though?

Yep, seam sealer. All cars have it on joints where 2 panels meet to keep water from getting in there and rusting the frame.

Some time ago I cleaned up and re-did that area on my car to make it look smoother than the lumpy seam sealer.

The drilled hole most likely was for an old alarm speaker, probably was attached with a self tapping screw there.
