I recently saw a photo of a Jap RX7 with the words 'Side Ported' written on it. Can anyone tell me what this means.

The RENESIS engine used in the upcoming RX-8 is an "all sideport" engine. Previous rotaries has side intake ports and peripheral exhaust ports. If that doesn't make sense, search the internet for "RENESIS" for more details.

someone on here talking about the Peripheral intake had a good picture of a sideport. I will see if I can find it..

side porting is what the Japanese call porting the intake ports. in the US, we call it streetporting. the most mild type of porting on a rotary engine in other words.
