I've bought the car for $9,500. I think I got an incredible deal on this R1. What do you guys think?

That's a great deal, if it is what it suggests in the pictures. Personally though I'd have a hard time buying it without seeing it in person - did you get to visit/test drive it?
I suggest you immediately take it to a rotary mechanic who can do a compression test, coolant system test, and overall inspection. Fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, oil change (do it often!), and other maintenance is very important. Get that AST replaced or install the elimination mod. Put on a boost gauge and be sure it's working a full 10-8-10.

Obviously he could have fixed collision himself, but carfax came back clean, so it couldn't have been too major (unless this guy is serious wrenchhead)

Battery does not have a tie down, air blocker thingys are missing in radiator opening. Could indicate prior front end collision that was poorly repaired.

"I just got the car back from Mazda a week ago"
"The new turbos are estimated to have no more than 5500 miles on them"
either he drove 5500 miles in a week, or he has no idea what NEW means.
oh yeah, those pictures look very familiar, i think i've seen them on eBay before

I couldn't see the patch on the right front though. Airbag sensor cable is in the way, might not be there though.

yea this is kinda fishy....mazda put used turbos on his car?
the milage in the upper portion of the description says 42,000 and then in the lower portion says 120,000
what is the writing on the windshield...maybe a "for sale" sign he chalked on there...i dunno?
it just seems like a short description for a really nice car. and toolboxes in the passenger seat are never a good sign.
if it works out....you got a great deal. but please be carefull

I am not the sceptical type normally, but this does seem a bit fishy. The wax writing on the windsheild is typical of an auto auction. The good side is that you are getting it at a great price, so you can do some repairs to it and still be ok. Good luck!

As long as it's as advertised, it looks like a good deal. I agree with the comments above though, I'd be hesitant to buy sight unseen. You might see if there any good shops around that he could have "sign off" on it's condition? It'll cost a little more, but it's cheap insurance.

I would definitely have him take it to an independent shop that you choose after you win the auction. If it checks out then send the deposit and you should be good to go.
Honestly it looks a bit beat to me and there are some better deals out there that may cost 2 or 3k more but you'll get a lot more car for the money.
Good luck,
Fritz
