what is the redline?
what is the redline?
i've been hearing lately in magazines, on the forum and elsewhere about people that have rotary engines reving to like 12k rpm... what gives? what am i missing here? what do you have to do to have a screemer like that?

There is no point to revving that high for a street-driven car. You will need a huge turbo and/or peripheral/bridge porting to even come close to making good power at rpms that high.
Also, to achieve a 12k rpm, be prepared to lose all power below 4500 rpm and to have a 2k rpm idle...
i don't believe everything i hear or read, hence, the post. i'm not saying i'm interested in doing it, just trying to learn something new. i figure, if i learn something everyday, i can't possibly forget it all next time i'm drunk
8000rpm is what Mazda lists but the tach is red dashed 7500-8000 rpm.
A stock car usually doesn't make much power past 6800rpm or so. As you do bolt-ons power continues up closer to the 8000rpm redline.
The rev limiter will kick in around 8200-8300 rpm.

hmm a thought just occured to me. If with certain porting your idle becomes 2k rpm ish~ what do you do when you move from a dead stop? burn the **** outta your clutch ? its like holding the RPMs to 2k and moving.
