What options do I have to replace the steering wheel with another wheel w/airbag?

Now that my airbag has gone pop, I need to replace it...I still want an airbag, but I'd like one of the newer looking three-spoke airbag steering wheels. Is it possible to buy one new? Are there more than one style, or is it pretty much just the efini style wheel?

I appreciate any info on this topic..thanks,

Ian

there are two very nice factory FD airbag steering wheels from the later production runs.

The 98-00 version usually referred to as the 'nardi wheel'

and the 00-02 version often referred to as the 'flying m wheel'

a search here or in the for sale section will bring a few hits.

I sold a couple of nardi wheels last month, not sure if or when I will have more. Ramy (FDNewbie) may have one at the moment.

Thanks Daioni.....If I needed, could you source a new one from a local Mazda dealer over there?

absolutely. I've not priced one, though, but I anticipate that it could be US$800+

2nd hand 98-00 wheels would start at about $350 for an average-fair one. The 00-02 don't come up very often.

another option is to use a miata wheel. you have to do a little more work to get it to fit, but probably easier to get your hands on one. good luck.

Is that wheel smaller than the stock wheel? If so, does anyone know the dimensions of both for comparison?

Is it possible to mount the cruise control bittons on the '99 Nardi wheel? Did the japanes models offer cruise control? Not that I use it much, but I like to keep my car fully functional, y'know?

What about the Rx-8 wheel? New less the air bag model it's $857 at a salvage yard should be about half that.

Even if it did fit, which I'm not sure it would, I wouldn't want a steering wheel full of buttons that won't work in my car.

1) Answered in your PM

2) Yes you can reuse your cruise control buttons.

And like DaiOni said, you can get one from him or me any day long (depends on who ends up winning it )
