What oil do you use?
Hey everyone, I am curious as to what engine oil and viscosity everyone uses on their FD3S. I was recently told that the brand Royal Purple, which I use, is designed for use in new cars only, and that a 20W-50 Royal Purple will not properly lube the engine in an RX-7 with 47000 miles. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? And if you know this as well, what in your opinion is a better oil/viscosity to use? Thanks to everyone for your time! ~Anthony

I use Royal Purple Racing 51 which is I believe is close to a 20W-50. I have been using it for about 10k miles and have not had a problem yet. Mine has 45k miles on it so it is close to yours. Also right on the back of the bottle it says it is ideal for super or turbocharged engines, not sure if they mean rotary but it is on there.

Valvoline 20W-50. Bought the car with 500 miles on second motor, which now has 60k on it. Have changed the oil every 2k with Mazda filters, and the same oil. Engine still runs like a champ.

Call Royal Purple and ask about it. One of their app engineers is a rotorhead who has worked tightly in the past with Racing Beat. I expect they will convince you of its suitability.
The only 'warning' against RP oil, or any synthetic is to not use it during the break-in period. At 47k you are 2 trips around the globe beyond that point.
I will close this thread since the general subject of what oil to use is a badly beaten horse carcass. Run a search for "royal purple oil" and you find many threads about oil selection, comparing brands, weights, etc.
