I really liked the solstice when i sat in it. Interior design reminded me of the RX7 some. That, and 245s stock!? This car has potential.

Hey, bragging rights over your Dad are important That was a joke. Besides I was talking about bragging rights of an RX7 over a Miata. Has nothing to do with an S2K or a Solstice.

Now on your other point: This is an RX7 club right? So if you don't care about 0-60 why don't you buy a Fiat? And if you are buying a car as an investment, then buy an old Corvette. Hey that's a GM car isn't it?

On age all I've got to say is I'm 48 and that's a bit shy of teenagerhood. I'll say this, that any teenager who owns an RX7 and is still alive deserves my respect. The RX7 would have been my dream car in high school (Babe magnet). But if I had owned one then I don't know if I'd still be here. So props to you teenagers who own RX7s.

Love the rear end though, and the auto option rules out the S2k. Being a Pontiac be prepared for problems and crappy interior quality.
Now the V8 version of the Solstice looks interesting.
You said to correct you if you are wrong so here goes:

Solstice get high marks in handling per Consumer Reports and every article I have read. Also, we are talking about the new 2007 Solstice GXP: Here are some specs and a link if you'd like to read more:

Courtesy of Josh Jacquot of edmunds.com

"Power numbers aren't yet finalized but the estimates look promising. According to Pontiac, the GXP will make as much as 260 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque — a considerable increase from the 177 hp and 166 lb-ft the 2.4-liter Ecotec makes in the current roadster. The new engine bristles with technology not yet seen in combination in a North American GM product. It uses direct injection, dual-cam phasing and a twin-scroll turbocharger to make up to 130 hp per liter."

Now I know that a lot of people are down on GM, but they can make a nice sports car. Can anyone say CORVETTE?

Have to wiegh in on the Solstice discussion concerning quality. As my wife drives a 2003 Miata, I'm always curious about its competitors so I checked out a Solstice at our recent car show. I was very disappointed.

The syling is bang on. Looks great and is much more agressive looking than the Miata, even the new 2006 model. However, as is the case on most GM products, the build quality is very poor. Our recent auto show had a Solstice raised on a turntable so I was able to get very good views of the car's body panels and the view wasn't pretty. The panels did not even come close to matching and the gaps were very inconsistent across the entire car. For example, on the right front panel, the gap was about 1/16th of an inch as the car mated to the hood. On the left side, the gap was well over 1/4th inch, making for a very poor fit indeed. Other installed panels stuck out so much you got the impression the persons putting the car together knew they were getting laid off and said, "f**k it, why bother"?

Now, I knew this was just one car (had to wonder why this one was on the display turntable) but I had an opportunity to see another one up close this weekend in Charleston. The car had the same problems. In fact, when viewed from the front, the bumper was noticably higher on the right side of the car than the left.

Makes me think back to the first new car I wanted and my Dad (fortunately) talked me out of, the Pontiac Fiero. What a piece of sh*t that car turned out to be. Of course, Toyota then stole the idea and turned it into the widely popular and reliable MR2.

I'm not a big fan of the Miata (I call my wife's car a 5/8th version of a real car), but after seeing the quality of the Solstice, I am always amazed as to why GM can't get it right. Kind of sums up their current problems though, doesn't it?

Final thoughts - go with the new Miata and be happy with its power. In the long run, you'll be much more happy.

Solstice

Thank you David for the objective opinion. Yes your points are all well taken. This is basically what Consumer Reports has said, that the build quality was a dissappointment. The car is such a beautiful design though and if they got the powertrain right on this latest model the GXP, then if may be an ok tradeoff. Bottom line is that this car is so poplular if I don't like it, I'll just keep my RX7 and sell the GXP. Shouldn't have any problem. The waiting list is 6 mos long on the old model and I can just imagine the fever for the new GXP. With any luck, GM will have listened to the critics and do a much better job on the 2007 GXP. We'll see. Love my RX7 though. Took it out for a spin today. What a great handling car and I live in the foothills with lots of winding roads. Yeehah!

Ok, we believe you. Personally I have stood up for you guys but if anyone here puts you down, it's only because as older individuals, we remember what is was like to fuel our cars on testosterone. If I were you, I would not take it personally. It is not that teenagers are inferior beings, but it is universally recognized by scientists now that the brain developes much slower than originally thought. A teenage brain thinks differently than a 30 yrs old brain. Insurance companies have known this for a long time. Just try getting car insurance for a 19 yr old! Then magically when you turn 25 they lower your rate by about half.
