What is my RX7 worth?

Hey I was wondering what I can get for my FD? Here are some basic details. I know about KBB but are these cars selling for over KBB since the number of them are limited and they have such a cult following among sports car enthusiasts?

Here are the details on the car:
1993 Touring version. Has every option you could get on it including Air cond, Rear Spoiler, Bose sound sys, Sunroof, rear wiper/washer etc. 46K orig miles. Everything is factory stock except added Downpipe, Metal AST, M2 cold air box, and new improved alum radiator. Also removed old Bose system head unit and replace with new Alpine unit w/12 disc CD changer into the rear storage compartment. (special resistors had to be used to make the speakers work with it. It was done properly by Good Guys stereo installation). Paint and interior are in near perfect condition. Every gadget and feature of the car operates perfectly.

So does anyone think I can get over KBB for this car? Whadya think?

I'll give you $5.
It all depends on how quick you want to sell it and who's going to buy it. These cars can fetch over book value in many cases. Check out Autotrader and classified section on this site for an idea of what these cars go for.

The best thing to do would be to put it on the market for what you want and see if someone buys it. There's no accurate way to gauge "what you can get for it". The only gauge is what the car is actually worth in banking terms, which is ~13K on the east coast according to my N.A.D.A. guide, and what someone actually pays you for the car, should you decide to sell it.

Also, modifications do account for a little, but not very much. Trust me on this one; and you're never going to get out of it what you have in it.

If you find the right buyer you could possibly get a lot more.

When my car was still in LA before I decided to keep it, I got a few offers in the $20k+ range. Almost sold it for $21k before I decided to keep it...

Pretty much bone stock 43k mile '95 base model.

Hold on to it, and baby it. Don't sell it just yet. We have to let all the 16 year olds thin out the market for another couple of years until there are nothing but quality adult owned FDs left.

Eventually a fully moded FD will be a thing of the past. Restoration and maintenance is the future! Viva la FD. I predict a $20K standard in the next few years.

It's just too bad it will cost us ever cent of the appreciation in replacement factory parts.

X2

at one point I was getting discourage owning a FD...feel like owning a mustang because every teenager has one. Was thinking selling it to buy a C6 but change my mind since I hate wearing gold watch and jewelry...lol.

Well you should remember that not every teenager is a douchebag driver either. I've had my FD since I was 18 and I'm not stupid with it. But yes there are some people that just shouldn't own FD's. Like this other kid at my school, he's not a rotorhead at all and just kinda seems like an idiot. Nice tho, just shoulda bought an F-body or something lol

As per the original post, If I had the money I would gladly pay you 13-15k for your car. It sounds VERY nice, the real way to find out what it's worth is to decide what you want for it, mark that up 500-1000 then post it up. Someone is going to ask you if you will take less and since you marked it up MORE than what you wanted you'll probly get what you wanted in the first place. If that made sense, I hope it helped.

Thanks

Well thanks guys. Those were some honest answers (except for the guy who said $6.25

I just put it in the Autotrader so will see how it does. I'm on a 6 mo plan. Just put a deposit down on a 2007 Poniac Solstice GXP. Anyone heard of it? Beauty of a car with lots of nifty new technology. Anyway I only have room in my garage for 1 toy, not to mention the insurance and maintenance cost of 2 sports cars. The GXP is a convertible so will be a nice change and with an auto trans my wife will be able to drive it (I think that's a good thing).

What do you guys think? Am I crazy?

Smile S2K vs RX7 vs Solstice GXP and Miata?

Fair enough and to each their own but I feel it my duty to advise you that the S2K has the ponies but not the torque. I believe the S2K is listed at 120, where the Solstice GXP is 260. That's a world of difference. I forget what the RX7 is but its got to be above the feeble numbers of the S2K. Granted I'm taking a chance on an un-released vehicle so no one knows how well these new GXPs will work. The Miata M5 is the vehicle most will choose over the Solstice I imagine due to its good reputation. I'm surprised by one thing. No comments on my decision to go with automatic trans? I expected to be beat up on that one. Thanks for being kind.

Correction to my last post: The Honda S2K has 162 lbs-ft of torque as compared with the 166 lbs-ft on the standard solstice model. The GXP has 260 lbs-ft of torque. Yikes! And the S2K goes for about $5K more! You guys better re-think your choices. Anyway the RX7 is a very nice car. 217 lbs-ft of torque. The s2k doesn't even develope its torque until 6800 rpm. That's why it needs the 6 spd manual.

Thank you. I feel better now. I needed to catch at least a little sh*t for that.

You know what I really need is a bigger garage. Then I could keep my 7. Anyone want to volunteer theirs? I know you'll keep the rust off the break rotors for me.

I love the RX7 and the S2K is a nice car. It better be for $35K! But I don't care how high my engine revs when I'm eating someone's road chips and catching a fleeting glimpse of their tail lights. I'll take the Solstice GXP anyday for only $29K. All the reviews of the handling on the standard model GXP say that it handles like a dream and it's the best looking car on the market today in my opinion. Tell your dad that his car is nice but for the dough I would have gone with a Miata. (The GXP only recently becoming avail). It also has equally good reputation for build quality and the rest. Also, think about it. You would have bragging rights over him forever with your RX7 which is the big brother to the Miata. But I give you props for standing up for your Dad's choices.

Bragging rights? Most of us stop basing car buying decisions on 0-60 times when we no longer have to just drool over our car magazine collection and are actually old enough to drive the cars we have been reading about.

A Honda has a $5k premium over a car made by GM? I wonder how that came about? By the end of one year depreciation alone would make the Honda a better financial choice.

Why is that no one can metion how the FD is not a car for a teenager without some teenager coming in here to say that they are the exception to the rule. Every time lol

More than likely the S2k will still outrun the Solstice even in it's FI form (and straight line performance is not even it's forte). Correct me if I'm wrong, but most reports have it's 0-60 time around 7 sec! I don't think you'll knock more than a second off that with factory FI. And handling wise the Solstice is a boat. Love the rear end though, and the auto option rules out the S2k. Being a Pontiac be prepared for problems and crappy interior quality.
Now the V8 version of the Solstice looks interesting.
