what mods before tuning??

ok...my 93 fd is at pfsupercars now, there was a problem in the wiring harness....but since its there i was gonna get it tuned.Mods as of now are apexi intake and full exhaust,no cat, pettit ecu, and i have an intercooler but havent installed it yet and i will do the radiator at the same time. Should i upgrade the injectors , the fuel pump, fuel pressure reg. before i get it tuned ?Or how about anything else?

Question

Are you getting a new ECU? If not, you aren't tuning squat with the Pettit ECU.

you mentioned petit ECU in your list of mods. is it the reflashed factory ECU or the purple box? if you got the purple, you don't need another ECU.

but if budget and time allows, definitly upgrade injectors, fuel pump, Twin power ignition amp, ignition wires, ... and a Boost controller!!

you don't need to upgrade ur fuel pressure regulator. factory is quite good.

The pettit is untuneable. Go with the Apexi PFC, For now keep the 550 primaries to help the idle. No need for larger on teh stock twins. Throw some 12-1300 secondaries in and that is enough for the stock twins. When you get a single kit you will have to retune anyways so then you can upgrade the primaries seeing that all the rats nest will be removed so it is a simple task.

While on the stock twins no need for a pressure regulator yet, just get a nice fuel pump and nice IC. Add those with the added fuel and PFC and you will be set.

that is purely up to you. if you decide to add additional injectors, you can get away with having a additional injectors controller (like AIC, AFC, MF2...etc) and not having to get another ECU. upgrading stock injectors will give u cleaner setup.

on twins with stock port

- stock 550/850 is good for up to 12psi @ around 285whp and you're maxing out the 2ndary injectors to around 94+ish% duty cycle.
- 550/1300 you'll be maxing out around 15psi and will get u into the low 300+whp

as for injectors for single turbo setup, i would get them later when your turbo is ready to install. you don't want too big of injectors working at too low of % duty cycle. plus the size will vary depending on what turbo you decide to go with

Those numbers do not seem right. Have a look at the RX7Store fuel calculator (which lists flywheel hp, not whp):

http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/3rdgencalc.cgi

I'm running 14psi on stock twins with all the bolt ons and at 90% duty cycle have 10.5:1 AFRs.

You should be good for 320whp with the stock injectors at 90% duty - and more if you are willing to push the duty.

In any case, you should buy a PFC.

It really varies also on the condition of the turbos and motor as well. 285@12psi was the results of my last tune w/ Steve. but another guy had same 12psi boost setting putting out 305whp on that same day.

so yeah, nvm about the HP output, a lot of factors can play in as you read different ppl's setup on the forum.

definitly +1 on a PFC if you can get a hold of one. it's tuner friendly, and works great all the way from stock twins to big fat single turbo application.

Wait until you have the money to go single and then do all your upgrades.
