What model do I have?

I read that all 1993 FD's are considered an "R1". But is that it? Aren't there trim levels?

Mine is a 93 with leather, Bose, sunroof, single oil cooler.

Touring - I know. But I'm being asked if it's an R1 or R2.
Trying to find out for the ins. company.

Thanks a lot.

No it is a Touring - R-1/2's did not have Bose or Sunroofs. and always had the 2nd oil cooler
In 93 the 3 trim level were Base, Touring, and R-1

yeah, R1 is sport version of 93, R2 is sport version of others, Touring had leather seats, sunroof, no spoiler. The big thing about the R's were they came with better suspension, but normally by the time people get them now, the suspension is already worn out, so it doens't make much difference which one you get. They are all great cars.

One more question - originally, were the touring models the most expensive brand new?

Just a quick crash course for you -

Touring - the "luxury" pack. Sunroof, Bose stereo w/ Bose "snake" in the hatch, leather, CD player, cruise control, etc.

R1 - 1993 only, came with front and rear spoilers, strut tower brace, 2nd oil cooler, and suede seats. There's some speculation that they have less sound deadening as well. No cruise control, basic stereo, only available with a 5-speed.

R2 - simply the 1994 version of the R1.

base was a touring.....with no cruise control, sunroof, bose stereo, leather,...........

then you could get the "PEP" popular equipment package....which was basically a base model with a sunroof and leather......

i thought that mazda changed the shock valving or the spring rates on the R2 to give it a more compliant, while still better than, the base/touring suspension
