You want to run the highest octane you can get outta your local pumps (91 to 93). Your motor wont run hotter. The car was designed to run on Premium, and if you put anything less in you may experience detonation and are asking for a short motor life. My suggestion to you is to start reading alot! The only way to learn about this stuff....

since your from the bay area. the best gas we can get is 91 octane. im going to suggest you to go to chevron or 76. some 76 stations around here have racing fuel of like 94 octane (i only heard of 2 and its at infineon raceway and somewhere in san jose). do not put anything less then 91 octane. so stick with chevron or 76 and you should be okay. happy boosting.

I have never heard of any drawbacks from running TOO much Octane. That sounds someone speaking out of their *** whoever told you that.

I would think you want the best you can get. On some cars, having too much octane may do nothing for you except cost more but I can't imagine too much being an issue.

Octane is a measure of flame retardation I thought. So more would seem to be better.

Too high of octane will descreas the life of your o2 sensor.

High(er) octane fuel, say 111+, is leaded. Not a good idea in all cars.

BTW "David Kim", you bought this car and you don't even know what kind of gas to put in it? If you're new to FDs, read the newbie stickies before you do anything else!

Sure, that's a valid point but it's not the actual octane level that's the problem, its the lead in that case needed to get it there.

That doesn't make any sense. Please explain. I'm assuming you're not talking about high octane LEADED fuels, but higher octane UNLEADED fuels.

I believe that he is talking about leaded fuel because usually fuel above 110 octane are leaded. The only fuel ive seen at the track above 110 was leaded. it is the lead which will screw up your o2 sensor not the higher octane.

Yes, I know leaded fuels will mess up the o2 sensor. My issue was with his blanket statement that a higher octane fuel will reduce o2 sensor life, which makes no sense.

Just put in 91 or 92. It's fine to use either or combine them....

Let me try to clarify this. You are correct in saying that leaded fuel is detrimental to 02 sensors, but high octane fuel (104+) that is "readily available" is leaded. I have never seen high octane unleaded fuel for sale anywhere.

Lovebone:

In his post, Resource said that too high of an octane will shorten the life of the o2 sensor. I believe this is false and was asking for clarification. To me, the comment had nothing to do with leaded fuels....

As an aside, you can buy 100 octane unleaded from race tracks and Ken (can't remember his forum name) has purchased 110 unleaded in Wisconsin (I believe). But in general, your statement is certainly true.
