z06, 1st gen viper gts, another trans am ws6, or a gtr. i hate the look of the evo's. look like poorly architectured family cars that some pounded a performance motor and drivetrain into and called a day. wrx's would make good daily drivers but still are ugly. m3's dont perform as well as everyone thinks and then try and race one and you're loking at spending huge money and even then its still a bimmer. i need a sports car not a 4 door family car. i liek to sit 2 incehs from th ground on a rock solid bumpy suspension and haev a motor i cant hear my stereo over(even though you have a 10k dollar stereo lol).

on the EVO.
That biznitch is UGLY. I have NEVER liked them..and I'm a big fan of the Best Motoring and Option videos that feature them so predominantly.
Even with all of their features, I just can't get over their looks.
ANYWAYS, I'd want a 1998 Supra TT, Sportscar Red. It's my FIRST dream car..and I still drool over them every time I see them. I wanted one originally, but I just couldn't afford it. Someday, I'm going to own one, and FD and a Supra TT. The best of both worlds.

The only thing that turns me off on my FD is the possibility of that engine taking a dump everytime i get into it. Maybe its just me being paranoid, but on a average weekend i put on 300-400 miles. This is my weekend car.
My freind has a nice 2000 Acura Type-R that he was considering a trade for. This is within reason for me, the reliability of the honda engine is outstanding, his car handles, and is pretty quick. however front wheel drive is garbage. The only other car is a TT supra.
I love my FD to death,, even though its in a million pieces right now, its great. Around my area you rarely see one, people always gawk at it, its hella fast (garret GT 66 single), handles great, and looks soo sexy. I think i would rather buy an extra engine to have sitting around as insurence so if mine were to blow, at most i would be 2-3 days of down time.
----FD's rule, and i dont think mine will be leaving me any time soon.

The US Elise forum has only a few members and therefore little traffic. I get bored at work & the fact that I don't own the FD anymore doesn't mean I forgot everything I learned when I had it.
side note(s) & general fyi:
They no longer make the exige. It was and will never be legal on public roads (in the US).
Sun international is shady. I will never import a car through them & wouldn't recommend them to anyone else.
For the record, I really miss the FD.... I almost regret having sold it.

The Ricer Eliminator
Well, I've done a lot of thinking about this recently, and i've come to the conclusion that whatever I replace my 7 with, will be a V8. It could be a few things. It could be as boring as an early 90's 5.0, or a little more interesting 93 Mustang Cobra, or an even more interesting later model Saleen, or 03' Cobra. I could also go the Z06 route. Of course, i'd have to put various levels of work into all these cars mentioned to make them at least some kind of competition for a healthy 7.
Also, if I saw a nice 69 Charger RT, all those previous mentioned cars would go out the window.
The only car that's not a V8 that i'm even remotely interested in, is a TT Supra. What a great car.
I love everything about the 7, with the exception of knowing that they blow up more often(3d motor in 3 years for me). I don't like that hanging over my head, and that may end up being my eventual undoing. What keeps me hooked is that it's just so good of a car otherwise. I mean, in modded form, and healthy, it borders on untouchable.
There is no other car like it.

definitely a '88 original (no aftermarket body kit bullcrap) 911 slantnose with the turbo engine. Either that or a '97 930 turbo if I had the money of course. But you can find a slant nose for around 35k. Considerably more than an RX7, yes, but those would be about the only thing I would give up to the rx7!

The simple answer to that problem is to just put an LS1 in your FD Then you will have the best of both worlds.....
And for the flamers; at least he would still be in an FD and not make a mustake....

Why dont we make a poll about this thread instead.
Personally im a car freak and i would buy as many as i could if i had the money. I wouldnt replace my fd for anything but i would love to cheat on my fd with some other cuties out there.
If i needed a family sports car i would get
01+ BMW M3
95+ BMW M5
RX8
If i wanted another sports car:
01+ M3
93+ Supra
NSX
02+ Viper
If i had the money to spend
Skyline GT-R
Porshe 911 GT3
TVR Tuscan S
Austin Martin

I still have the web-site bookmarked. A fine FD it is.

Im with JetBlackCenter, I can sell my FD and buy an early 1990's silvia from my friends at YLM for cheap and I can buy an AE86 as my daily driver for next to nothing if you can find one in good shape. We used to buy AE86's for like 2-3 hundred bucks and sell them for a little over $1000 to a race shop.

wow, this is a few months old. i think just about everyone over the course of owning an fd thinks about what else they could have. i'm never selling my 7, but we cant drive it every day. so what i have now, 2001 audi s4, daily driver, already 64k miles. badass car, awd- i live in utah so i'm in the mountains and get lots of snow, so awd kicks ***. not to mention it can move. i also have a 94 lotus esprit s4, which is sold as of today, and if anyone is interested (since so many said nsx) i have a 91 nsx with 17k original miles for sale. not sure what i'm asking though.
my next project is a ultima for sure. i emailed ted marlow a year ago asking if anyone ever put a rotary in one, he said no, but always thought it would kick ***. so maybe a single turbo 20b or even an n/a 4 rotor?? ok, maybe thats dreaming.
ferrari's are ok, i'd take one to drive around everyday. but in utah....no driving it in the winter.
all in all, there is no substitute for the fd, some come close, but fall short in one area or another. so if your looking for cheaper and less maintenance, better gas mileage, go for it.
others i'd like to have:
tvr tuscan s
aston martin
e46 m3
audi rs6
911
so thats kind of a wish list. maybe i'll have one or two of them one day, but for now, i'll stick with the fd and the s4.
man it gets your mind going doesn't it?

NSX. i know they're not as fast, but i absolutely love them. the styling is timeless (like the FD), and the mid-engine layout kicks ***. if i ever got rid of my FD, this is definitely my first choice for a replacement.
some other alternatives:
S2000. it's a honda, but i'm OK with honda's. i like the looks and 200+ HP from a 4-cylinder kicks ***. although, it could use some more torque.
91-95 MR2 Turbo. i used to have a 91Turbo, and i miss it. it was a lot of fun and pretty fast, too, and i've always loved the MR2's (except for the new ones, they suck )
late 90's BMW M3. i like it, and the kids could ride with me.....and the wife, too actually, this would probably be a replacement for my current grocery getter (nissan maxima) and not the FD

hmmm... to replace an fd, it will have to be something thats rare, but reliable. rare because fds are very rare, and reliable because fds for the most part are not... im gonna go ahead and say it even though im gonna get flamed, but put a diffrent motor in your FD. like a nice big loud V8! i love the looks of the FD, and i love the sound of a beefy v8. v8+fd= badass and fast car
