I saw a car like this at the last show i was at and it just floored me. the ease of the swap and then being able to have 4 doors, luxury, speed, good looks, and a 2-3 year old car as opposed to a 10 year old car really got my mind thinking... however, i really don't see myself doing that either, i have grown to love the FDs way too much in the past months, and I need to have one... I don't think i will be complete without it
EXACTLY, I absolutely love the IS300 and was thinking the same thing. You took the thoughts right out of my head. The only difference is I have an FD, and would get an IS300 on top of it if I needed a more practical vehicle with a little punch.

If I was not buying another fd i would buy a miata and put a 13b with a songle turbo ans kee just about all of my mods then take my car as close as possible to stock for money reasons! I dont know it might be easier to just build teh miata from scratch. I would buy one with light front end damage this way i could put a front end conversion on it to hold he oil cooler rediater adn intercooler all up front!

I would pick up a 96-98 M3 sedan. 4-doors with very good handling, brakes, and power. And there's always Dinan modifications....

Thumbs up

A-men! I am on my 2 nd FD,
Bought a touring 94' back in 96' sold it after blew the motor and drove many Supra TT and NSX, "big pig"-3000GT-VR4. Did not buy any but a CYM-R1...
Beware, Rx-7 is addictive...

Very few cars in my price range truly interest me but the 350Z is certainly one that does.

The S2000 is the only car that would be as much fun in everyday driving.I only say S2000 because nothing else is as light or looks as good (besides the 7), IMO.Flame suit is on, fire away
Great car the S2000, problem is you might not fit in it. Very small car, like a Miata, too small for me.

From the first time I saw my first FD (not from the fast and furious) I have been in love with it. When i turned 16 there was no way i would have been able to afford it, so i looked else where and bought what is now my winter beater and work car. After i turned 17 and saved up a pretty decent amount of money (for a 17 year old) i ended up buying a 1966 mustang (needed some work, but drove fantastic, I had plans to restore it) It had more horsepower and torque then i could handle at the time and i had a blast in it. Eventually i got sick of it after about 6 months and stopped dropping money into it. About a year ago i started obsessing about the mazda rx-7 again. about 4 months ago i started getting very serious about getting one and have been looking daily. One month ago i found the car of my dreams. It had 79000 miles, a new engine a rebuilt transmittion a new clutch new Yokohama advan tires, and a $2200 knightsport hood. It had a bunch of mods, and when i drove it, it was like nothing i ever drove before. I bought it and thought to myself i would buy a Corvette Z06 or a viper when i get out of college. After a month of driving this thing, i decided that I wont be parting with my FD for a really long time, unless its for another FD.

My FD is a toy. I have other cars when I need to actually drive somewhere. I would probably replace it with something totally impractical like this

Viper GTS.

But I have no intention of selling the FD for a few years. If someone stole it or I wrecked it tomorrow, I'd get the Viper rather than build another FD - just to do something new. In a few years, I'll probably get a full out track car instead.

NSX

I've always wanted an NSX. Too bad the used ones are still pretty pricey.

Forget all of those cars.

Build one of these:
http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/gtr/pics/gtr20.jpg

Main 'costs' page:
http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/usa/prices.html

Its an ultima GTR. Total projected costs to build one is about 50-80k if you build it. If you get a rolling chassis its 89k; add an engine, tranny and you are ready to go.
The guys on the project team for McLaren's F1 basically got bored, quit and started building these kit cars. Crazy light, fast, and agile. Look em' up, stick a 800hp or so motor in them, and pray.

You guys have the wrong idea...I believe the April edition of Car & Driver (maybe MotorTrend) stated that Mazda is currently working on the 06' Rx-7 (confirmed by Mazda engineers). This is the only car I'd ever consider selling my fd for. The other options out there now just don't have the sport car soul the fd has. They all seem to have enough power but there either two heavy, can't handle, to expensive or just to damn ugly be to compete with an fd.

hmmm...

well, I sold my FD to get a Lotus Elise, so, yeah, I guess that would be the one.

Why?

same 0-60 (estimated - don't know the engine for sure)
same 1/4 mile (see above)
better handling
better reliability
better gas milage
lighter
newer
...and they look damn good (imo)

Seeing as there is no way I'd use my FD as a daily anyway, it would be replaced by another toy...

And the only thing that I'd consider a better toy would have a prancing horse on it... I could live with a 355 or 360, but I really love the Testarossa's. An F40 or 50 would obviously be nice too, but I can't see them ever becoming affordable

the Elise is sick, but is it much bigger inside than a maita? I am 6'3 @ ~280 so it might be too small for me.

I'd never really "fallen in love" with 7's till I realised I was getting one. I always figured it was too exotic and expensive, so I never really drueled over it. I like it alot, but it's a project car, and I'm not a tuner, so it's a weird relationship for my poor ***. A fun weird relationship.

When the WRX STI comes out, I'll be test driving one right away since my mom knows someone who works at a Mass. subi dealership. It looks like a really nice car, and if its even equal to the Evo8, it'd handle like a beast. At my last (fist) autoX, the 2 novice class winners were evo8's.

I don't really need more than 1 passenger seat, though it is my daily driver, since I can just borrow my moms explorer, and my buget really caps out in the mid to high 30's. A used porsche is nice, but I doub't I could afford maintnence costs -same thing with a BMW- and I've never seen a porsche interior I've really liked.

Early 90's NSX... Sure head turner, and from what I hear they are really well built, but I wonder if I could afford the maintnence and work needed to even get it to FD level performace. Duno much about them.

It's something I think about every day, I'm just never happy with what I have, hehe.

I sound like a broken record, huh?

Delivery dates start April of next year (2004). I'm #32 on the waiting list at Symbolic with my deposit already down on the car.

long wait. sucks not having the FD, but I wanted to sell it while it was still worth something. In the mean time I drive an '86 MR2 that's been totalled twice & has more rattles than Bill Gate's baby (if he were to have one).

.. and it's definitely smaller on the outside than a miata, but pretty spacious inside. I've yet to try one on (supposedly there will be one here for testing in the next week or two), but I know of people in the UK that are as tall as me (6'5") and fit, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
