How about a Lotus Elise imported through Sun technologies and refitted with an Acura Integra RSX motor. Light, beautiful, and a no nonsense sports car. About 50K good to go.

the only car appropriate enough to replace my FD would be a 4th gen RX-7, 2dr hatch with either a turbo 2 rotor or an NA 3 rotor with close to 300 hp....

Once I'm married with rugrats - the family car of choice for the traditional road trip vacation will be the Aston Martin Vanquish, or a Learjet. I'm keeping the FD though

If I were ever to pick something to replace my FD would be another FD or a '93 911Turbo, a Super 7, Lotus Exige, Lotus Elise, S2K or a 944Turbo.

hmmm...
well, I sold my FD to get a Lotus Elise, so, yeah, I guess that would be the one.

Why?

same 0-60 (estimated - don't know the engine for sure)
same 1/4 mile (see above)
better handling
better reliability
better gas milage
lighter
newer
...and they look damn good (imo)
Lotus Elise?? hmmmm.....to each his own. What fascinates me is the the number of people who have moved on to "better" and more "reliable" sports cars and still float around on this forum...

That is if .. and only if ... the 4th gen RX-7 ever makes it to these shores. We all know the song-and-dance ... if RX-8 sales do well ... I'm remaining hopeful, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I think I would make the leap and get a 2003 Ford Lightening. 5.4L Supercharged V8 is nothing to scoff at, and those trucks are damn fast with a lot of potential.

Its an ultima GTR. Total projected costs to build one is about 50-80k if you build it. If you get a rolling chassis its 89k; add an engine, tranny and you are ready to go.
The guys on the project team for McLaren's F1 basically got bored, quit and started building these kit cars. Crazy light, fast, and agile. Look em' up, stick a 800hp or so motor in them, and pray.

I've got a FC3S right now, but my goal is to own a FD. Just about the only car that could make my stray from that course is a 4th gen RX-7 or R33 GT-R. But I'd rather have a pure sports car than a skyline since the decision is for my track toy, not a grocery getter.

I've dreamed my whole 'driving life' of owning an FD...anything else from this day on will be a step below. I can't think of any car on this earth that is a more perfect interpritation of a sports car. Now if we are talking about a secondary daily driver...Black 1988 BMW M3 and that is considering I could have anything in the world... I'm easy to please

a silvia, skyline or a supra tt. these are the only cars that can replace an fd, besides something like a ferrari. i would also get a vr4 3000 gt spider. but good luck finding one there realy rare.

By stating that BOTH more power and better engine are edges the sti has over the evo, you are implying that the sti has a better engine in terms other than power.

I guess if by better you mean unproven and lacking aftermarket support then you would be correct. BTW if the sti will have the same engine as the 2.5rs (which it will) it is a flat 4 not 6. I am also pretty sure it will be the 8v version due to reliability issues with the 16v. I could be wrong, they might have worked out the problems.

And to all of you elise guys well....have fun with your celica engine

When I replace my FD, it'll be something with an exotic exterior shape. I would never replace it with a WRX or EVO, doing so would be like replacing something pretty with something ugly. Although the WRX is a pretty fast car for its price, but I simply can't stand running into at least 3 or 4 of them everytime I go out.

Oh yeah, don't you all notice that all the cars on the road today are looking more and more like boxes? I really can't think of any new cars that have a very distinctive shape like the FD IMO.

They all seem to have enough power but there either two heavy, can't handle, to expensive or just to damn ugly be to compete with an fd.

My sentiments exactly...
