Which Intercooler are you running?

I had great success with my last Poll thread with the radiators and I would like to get a feel with the what kind of intercooler everyone is running. I have a series of question I would like you to answer to the best of your ability. I appreciate your time!

1. What intercooler? Make/Model (size?)
2. Turbo setup? (other notable mods)
3. Power rating and boost levels?
4. Brief summary of how you feel about your intercooler and why you choose the intercooler. (If you have data: pressure drop, air temps, water temps, etc please include.)

Again I appreciate your time and response, maybe this could help stop the constant “What intercooler should I get?” thread. Thanks!

I'm running the OE cuz I can't afford anything else, but if I were to buy one, it would probably be the ASP large. I just like that one.

I run an ASP large IC. : ) I ran 10.98 corrected 1/4 mile with a best mph of 125mph on a stock motor. I ran the IC during the 4000 mile One Lap where we placed as the top 1st timers with Jeff Jittrell being the hot shoe. We also had a radar speed of 177mph on the 1/3 oval portion of the MIS event, in the rain : ). The car "should" be making over 600hp on that same IC with one changed end tank now.

Some pointless numbers that other people will use: My intake temps on the highway were once 45 degrees F with ambient temps at about 40 : P. Temp at cruise is normally about 4 to 5 degrees above ambient as measured on an Andial delta guage at the output tube of the IC with the extension duct in place.

Oh, I feel it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. : P

Obviously I'm being sarcastic posting here, but all the numbers, events and setup are accurate that I listed above.

I run a Greddy 3 Row with a Garret T-70. I am running 15 lbs and achieving high 11 second passes. My air temps are stable in the low 40's and much better than my previous setup. Previous setup was custom Toyo FMIC wiht 2.5 piping. I beleive it was too small for a single turbo setup. The Greddy is a fine FMIC in my opinion, it looks good works well, and cost is reasonable. I plan on adding H20 injection as well.

pettit large. My friend with pettit medium actually shows lower temps than me . I thinks its because the duct sucks. Its the same one for the medium...so 3 inches of the cooler hang out and dont get air. The medium on the other hand fits fine and gets all the air it needs. Bigger is not always better it seems.

APS (M2) Large SMIC w/ no extension duct. 10psi, stock turbos. Sees a lot of track days. No hard data available. Intercooler is only part of the engine bay still cool to the touch after lapping at the tracks. Works for me!

custom RR built 400x300x100 bar and plate 2.5'' inlet/outlet.
NON- Seq stock twins
running 10psi boost ( daily driven) makes good power, I see boost around 2300 and up
I went custom cos thats just the kind of guy I am, I measured everything up to fit adzactly, even though there is quite a bit of plumbing ( x1 45o, x5 90o) the lag is infantissimal compared to the power i can get.
I have been V-mount before as well but i prefer FMIC.

Heh, that's pretty funny. I'm starting to understand why that one guy, a few months back, tried to insult me by claiming I use the same duct for both. Apparently Pettit didn't know the ducts were different either when they copied it. Too funny. If you're going to copy something at least get it right.

I'm debating on offering to sell you a large duct to fit properly, assuming they copied the rest of it right, but I'm a little concerned about your being a Pettit customer and having them copy this duct as well. Send me a PM if interested. No this offer isn't open to anyone else hoping to just buy a duct.

I clicked on the small SMIC. I have been in the market for one for a while and I finally found one (hopefully in a few days). THe only two that I was considering were ASP med or PFS SMIC.

1. PFS SMIC

2. Stock sequential twins

3. now I'm at 10 psi but my goal is 13 (need ECU). Actually the goal is very easy, I already have everything else except the ECU.

4. I chose the MED size ones because of my plans for the car. Just a regular driver who enjoys "spirited driving". I drive my FD often and I will be sitting in traffic for sure so FMIC is not for me. In addition I don't like the bling factor of a FMIC, to me it's just asking to get my car stolen. With a goal of 'only' 13 psi I don't think that I would fully utilize the capabilities of a ASP Large SMIC. Med V-mount would be the way to go but damn that some serious $$$.

Pettit Cool Charge II

I like it, it's not too big and i get good response. I'm no expert with it and have had no other experiences with other FD's . . . i'm just pleased with the results.

1. ASP Medium

2. 99spec twins, ported motor, all the bolt-ons

3. 375rwhp at 14psi, but I normally run it at around 10.

4. I absolutely love the setup I'm running. I do a lot of autocross/road racing, and I feel that this is close to the perfect setup for that.

Had a 2 row Greddy FMIC that I was going to put on but I don't like how the bumper and reinforcement have to be modified, plus I am worried about overheating. Went with a Rotary Extreme V-mount instead, think I will be very satisfied.

greddy 3 row on non-seq twins. Works fine as far as I know hot side is hot burns your hands and cool side is cool to the touch so it works lol. I think my twins are a little to small for it but it's all in preperation for a single coming soon. Havn't had any over heating problems in mine, it takes forever like 15 min of driving to reach temp but I also took off the a/c off and that freed up air flow to my radiator.
