Trust Airinx. The pipes are nice but foam filters really do suck. While recently working on my car my friend wiped inside one of my intake pipes with a paper towel and it came out a little dirty - Apparently not filtering as much as it should. I'll be getting some K&N filters to use with the Greddy piping soon.

Oh, and I had the HKS super mega flow intake at one point too...definitely did not like that one. All I can say is learn from my experience and do not get any kind of foam filter intake!

I have the apexi intake system but I do not like the charge temperature... If you are running an aftermarket intercooler with a watershot it will work good..... For those of us that can not yet afford an intercooler suffer from great airflow but horrible heat soak. To make things worse, if there is no box, the radiator fan blows right into the intake If you are serious about power, build a cold air box and use small K&N filters..... The stock airbox has a lower charge temp then an aftermarket which I believe is more detrimental then the gain from increased airflow.....

I have the hks and don't have any problems with it. However, according to that online test that everyone seems to cite, foam filters do not seem to be as effective as other material filters. However, I have heard that the HKS intake is one of the more popular sellers in Japan. I'm not sure what to believe, but I have seen some real nice cold air boxes.

I've got the RE Amemyia intake system & it works great. No problems at all. The only downside I see is that I have to take the filter housing off in order to remove the foam filter for cleaning, other than that, it's great.

like no filter at all?

I found the REAmammeya intake used for $125, and was definately considering buy it, or the Apex for $250, but i definately do not want (more) heat issues. So pretty much a cold intake box is the only way to go eh?

i have the RE Amemyia intake, have not installed it yet just thinking about using the stock box's bottom instead of the cold air to block of the fan heat. while running duct from the passangers side oil cooler.

My car came with the R/B cold air intake, stock air box uses a K&N filter. Seems ok to me. Tom

Open style, i.e. no box. It sucks in hot engine air. There are several threads debating the pros and cons of open (Apexi, HKS) vs. closed (M2, RX7 fashion)

I would just do the "poor man's cold air intake". The stock intake system actually is the coldest intake available. The only drawback to the poor man's mod is you can't upgrade to a bigger intercooler (except for the Greddy and Blitz).

When the time comes, I will get a M2, rx7fashion, or CWC intake.

WRONG...Open style meaning NO BOX, NO AIR FILTER, stick your finger into the front turbo....OPEN STYLE...

I'm going single turbo soon, and I don't care about my turbo's(since they're probably blown now) and will be going to my T-04S in less than a month...

This is NOT for people who can't rebuild their own engine or are scared....I redline 9000 rpms 1st gear like it's cool...Fear of a blown engine...LOL...Nope...Not me

I go with the Blitz SUS.... all metal screen. It's kinda pricey at $350 or so, but it comes with a heat shield for the radiator fans (otherwise an apexi super intake would be good enuff). I've researched some strange things about the stock box and sucking in hot air or something weird like that, so i gave up the K&n/RB duct.... (forgot the link where i read that)

I'm using the HKS intake right now. My first choice was the Blitz intake. IMO, it looks the best in the engine bay, but it was on backorder when I tried to get one. Next was the Apexi, but it too was on backorder so I ended up with the HKS.

Foam filters aren't the best, but they are fine as long as you check them with your normal maintenance routine. Make sure they don't get hard, brittle and begin to break apart. Replace them before that happens.

I always had fine luck with an HKS foam when I had an FC. I just used K&N oil on it. The filter lasted for years with no problem plus the oil does a decent job trapping dirt. Before that I had used the K&N oil on dirt bikes for many years, the filters never crumbled.
Just be sure to work it in with your hands.

Damn you guys are too hardcore for me! You better at least put a screen around that thing so it doesn't suck up things like roadkill or low flying birds.

I have a K&N drop in with holes drilled in the bottom like rob robinette's site talks about. My car runs very stong with that and a full exhaust. I will probably upgrade to two K&N cone filters and get rid of all that stock crap eventually.

Yep, actually I've only replaced mine once, and that was just for the heck of it.

I made a K&N intake for my FD. It was fairley simple and cost under $100. $60 for both filters, 5 bucks each per pipe.
