Anybody recognize this config? It looks like it allows for a cai to both the smic as well as intake. I have never seen it. I noticed the guy is in Greece so maybe it wasn't sold in the states or is custom?

Thanks. Did a little searching and noticed it is comparable to autoexe and knightsport intakes. Like you said though its big money for any of them as its gonna be rx7boutique or rhdjapan.

 

I wanted this Mazdaspeed CF Intake box as well, but too hard to find, and when one is available, its close to like $1,300 + shipping, if I recall correctly. Definitely contact rx7boutique if you really want it.

 

You can modify your stock airbox to flow better than any other cold air intake.

I'm using the autoexe intake and lemmie tell you, I love it but it brings down your performance ceiling alot. I'd love to stick a larger IC in my car but it's not possible without alot of work .

 

Adam, I actually have modified my intake and fab'd up a duct to pull from under the car similar to how yours works. It does seems to work great. My question though is how can I now do a nice SMIC and get the air to both the IC as well as the intake.

The stock config flows in this manner but most aftermarket SMIC's flow just into the intercooler from what I have seen. That would mean no air coming into the intake from the front of the car unless i can fab up some ducting.

 

When your car is at speed, I don't think this is to much of a worry. To be honest, I don't think the stock system has to many provisions to do this anyway. If your end game is to truly lower intake temps, there are better ways than fiddling around with fancy intakes.

 

I think the stock duct works reasonably well with a Blitz or Greddy (in the photo above) SMIC

 

PFS has an excellent quality duct and IC. The duct also diverts some air to the PFS intake....but that's not ideal. So just like that cheap bastard Adam, I modified the PFS box to source air from the nose of the car. I then screened the IC duct tube feeding the intake. The screen allows air to pass while keeping the big K & N cleaner and increasing pressure a little in front of the IC at speed.
The engine seems to breath well, quick spool and my IATs are usually pretty decent compared to ambient.

I really like that setup Jim. I just emailed pfs but roughly what should I expect to pay for that intake/smic combo?

 

Not sure what PFS gets for the package new. I think > $1k. They come up used in the Parts for Sale section occasionally. IIRC somewhere between $600 and $800 depending on condition. That should include the duct, intake box and K & N filter.

I like mine and have no plans to change. But there are other good SMIC set-ups out there too. Blitz, Greddy etc....Knights Sport doesn't look bad either. Search is your friend if you haven't. Alot of threads.

If you like that style, you are better off with an Autoexe or gruppe-m intake which are still expensive but you are talking a BIG number for that MS intake. Not to mention they are virtually impossible to find.

 

The still produce rx7sp intakes, too. If you know where to looks. I can't rmember the exact figure but it's probably more than the mazdaspeed setup used.
