What holes are these behind ABS?

This evening when I was poking around my ABS unit, I spotted a threaded hole on the engine side of the ABS unit with nothing in it. There was another hole as well. This look to be mounting holes for something but nothing is there. Anyone have an idea what they are/were for and what if anything I'm missing from that spot? The view is from the passenger side of the engine bay looking down on the top of the ABS unit.

There is a heat shield that bolts there.

^^^ I'm gonna guess someone took it off to fit that torque dampener.

Thanks Paul. I don't suppose anyone has any pictures of it?

You're probably right. I think I'd rather have a heat shield than the torque damper.

I'd sure like to see what one looked like.

nope, it fits with the dampener. it was probably removed when doin a rebuild, it does a number on ones wrists and hands when feeding the engine harness through the firewall. it has some sharp edges on it.

Should be a heat shield. The ABS unit will eventually fail without the heat shield in place. I have a good extra somewhere if you need it.

Here are the pix from a stock setup. Note the sharp edges especially toward the front of the car.

If you can find, I could use it. Let me know.

Amazing the stuff that I'm continuing to find out about this car after almost 6 months.

I wonder if that is why my brake fluid looked so nasty when I flushed it?
