Angry What the hell is wrong with you people?

Almost everytime I see an FD in public it's trashed.

EVERY time I see an MKIV, it is in near MINT condition.

Just because FDs can sell for dirt cheap means they can be treated like dirt? Maybe it's just a miami thing. I dunno. Or maybe MKIV owners are just more caring than FD owners.... Maybe MKIV owners just know about what they are getting themselves into before getting one. *Prepares triple flame suit * Or maybe 16 year olds should stop buying FDs. (Being that MKIVs are usually in the realm of people that actually make money)

Granted, my FD needs a paint job, but I don't go around advertising it. She's been hybernating in the garage

I think it's just a Miami thing. All the ones around my area (Cincinnati - Columbus) are near mint.

Well as a guy that has fixed and sold a few FDs I can tell you it is WAY easier to sell a rough $10K FD than a nice $15K FD.

Then after the tight *** has bought the $10k car over the nicer one, all they do is bitch about all the problems or they spend $10K making it as nice as the $15K car.

No, i see thrashed FD's all the time. Just yesterday I saw an MB FD getting off of 880N on Brokaw (you know who you are, even if i don't ) with what appeared to be a thrashed paintjob and the popeye headlight look (one up one down, no lights on).

Sucks to see these cars used as beaters, but let's face it, folks will do that with any car. I just got mine back from the body shop and it's looking fly again (YAY! ), so I'm trying to bring up the average.

Maybe its related to the income per capita of the area.
e.g. Miami, people are making lotsa money so 12-15K is cheap, thus lots of people trash it.
Midwest, people are making little money, well they can live happily with it, but 12K-15K is expensive, thus only few can afford and they treasure it.

Just observation between city people vs village people...

Wow, that's the first time I've heard the Midwest referred to as "the village people". I can tell you I've never seen any gay guys wearing indian or police costumes during the 22 years I lived there...

As a transplanted Michiganian, I can tell you that people in the midwest may not make quite as much money (and that's not always true, most of my friends make as much or more than I do), but the cost of living is much lower.

Try buying a 4 bdrm, 2 bath house in a good neighborhood for $130k. Here in the Bay Area, that wouldn't even get you a friggin condo in a bad part of town.....

Flybye:

Most FDs I've seen out here are well kept. Unfortunately mine is a daily driver and is not always kept as clean as I would like. But my paint is in good shape (minus the damn mirrors and a few door dings) and I definitely don't have the "popeye" look going on. I have seen a HUGE number of completely trashed 1st and 2nd gens though......

There are very few FD Rx7s in central Indiana. The FD owners I know of keep their cars in great shape. Gotta keep the faith, Flybye I guess the Rx7 community is converging in Indy this weekend, so I guess I'll go check out a few FD Rx7s @ IRP if I have the chance...

Since I've been driving(6 years) I've only seen 2 around here, one w/ a ton aftermarket and color changing paint, and another clean stock one. Wish there were more around though

Hmmm, my 93 does not even have a door ding. (since I just shelled out $300 to the dent repair guy to have them fixed!) People who don't take care of their cars don't floss or see their dentist on a regular basis.

It's a matter of pride and personal hygiene, and them village people and young'uns these days just don't care...neither do rednecks!

Oh ****, now I'll be singing "YMCA" all day...........

Cool

What bothers me most is, that the ones that are trashed start every day, don't overheat, they don't need oil changes, they use cheap gas and don't detonate, they don't get stolen, they don't smoke, don't brake and need a rebuild, plus go way over any reasonable life expectantcy for that kind of treatment and their owners don't spend large amounts of ca$$h and don't belong to our forum community.

Then you have us, we do all the opposite from the above. We do all within our power to make them reliable, protect them from all harm and how do our beloved, well keept and ungrateful cars pay us back?????
They treat us like **** and they want more ca$$h thrown into them plus demand 110% of our time devoted to them and are never happy.
WOW!!! that sounds like wife.

From time to time, when you smoke and leave behind an opponent car in a cloud of dust; they will give you a smile that not even a plastic surgeon can wipe off your face.

The FD's here in Nashville are kept clean and I haven't seen any riced out or trashed 7's yet. Hopefully I won't see one...

Every single FD around here (about 4 of them) is near perfect. I won't mention the LT1 transplant, but besides that monstrosity, all of them run extremely well and look great.

See that's another example.
When I went to the import national how at the drag strip, there were like 4 or 5 FDs scattered throughout the parking lot (Yes, I actually drove around to look ) and there were also about the same number of MKIVs there. All except 1 FD looked like complete **** while ALL the MKIVs looked beautiful.

There was 1 MKIV in the show. That thing looked like you could eat off the engine bay. There was also 1 FD in the show. That FD looked like the engine bay went through a dirt storm

Seems to me, Flybye, that the same thing happened to the mid-year corvettes, 1963 to 1967's... Now try and buy one.... hell, a trashy 1967 Stringray Roadster w/327cid, 350hp and minimal GM options is something like $12 to $18K.... Point is, as time went by, and folks wrecked these cars, prices started to go UP..... Now, try and buy a serviceable Big Block 66,,, you'll likely go into sticker shock...

The FD's, IMO, are, like the mid-year Vettes, the stuff that legends are made of.... Looks, Performance, and sex appeal. Consequently, there will likely come a time, and it may take 20 years, as it did for the mid-year corvettes, when a nice streetable FD will be highly sought after and command financial respect... Just my opinion

Cheers,
Rich

And they still make a Carbon Fiber replacement.... Of course Vosko will find a way to break the driveshaft eventually... He's broke every-damn-thing else!

Flybye,
The FD is an extraodinary, special car, I would be the first one to agree on that point. But if you read my sentence above, it is a CAR. It is meant to be driven, and those that daily drive their FD (like me) keep it clean within reason, but I have nothing else to drive if my engine is out so I can clean the wiring harness that no one will ever see.

My point is this, seeing"trashed" FD's to me means that someone loves that car enough to deal with all of its reliability issues, and shortcomings and drive it every day. Owning these cars is a challenge to anyone making <$50k a year. If you have enough money to own one, keep it running right, and have a second car to drive when it breaks, good for you, you are a symbol to which the rest of us can look up. But don't you remember the first time something broke on your FD and you couldn't get it fixed right away due to money/time constraints? Well, same thing with the trashed ones, it just happens more often...
