if va is that **** about stuff, i don't think taking out the light bulb will work. they will find out the light doesn't work at all when they turn on the car when all the lights are suppused to come on. i took my car to a shop to have the steering wheel changed and the light doesn't stay on. i will go check later to see if it comes on when i start the car.

Well now I don't know what the hell is going on! Now the air bag light doesn't stay on it flashes, six times. The ABS light is also on. HELP ME PASS INSPECTION! I might can just cover up those light, but what about the horm not working, what could that be? Also, what about the defroster? It isn't just the defrost, the whole air system thing just doesn't work, at all.

So if there is a problem, diagnostic module, any of that stuff for the 6 blinks, would an aftermarket steering wheel work and give me no problems? I would just bust the air bag light bulb or something.

I'm actually not surprised the rear defroster is on the same list as it brings up rear visibility issues in poor weather.

The horn and the airbag wiring normally are not on the same circuit. I can't speak for Mazda but airbag wiring is different and must have gold connectors and much higher quality material. The bag and the Modula again normally are not in the same place. Normally there is a separate sensing and diagnostic Modula. That's the guy who triggers the bag. The impact sensors are on the sub frame of the bumper and if unplugged etc will trigger the light as well. A fuse, unplugged harness will turn on the light too. If the steering rack or shaft is disconnected and the steering wheel is spun free more than 3 times in one direction it will likely snap off the coiled up wiring in the steering column and the light will come on. The system is well protected against open circuits and will turn on the light by default. The SDM turns off the light when it passes all the internal tests. Get a manual and read up on the system, locate the connections, fuses etc.

Ok so is it the actual metal spring that sits in the purple plastic housing? Or the black round thing that has the yellow cable coming off it?

Some pretty good pictures to help guide you HERE
Well nashman says it's a coiled spring, but every pic of a clock spring shows the black round plastic thing with the yellow sticker and wiring, so I'm trying to be certain which part he's referring to

This is the clock spring assembly. There is a flat wire that is coiled up inside. Just replace the whole assembly (if it's bad)..don't try to take it apart. You can probably find a used one on this forum for sale.
also, go here http://www.wright-here.net/files/man..._tshooting.pdf and scroll to section "S"...
