what does R1 mean?

Ok I'm new this this forum so i might be asking a really stupid question. I was driving home from school today and i was behind an rx-7(3rd gen) and it had R1 on the back passenger side. What does R1 mean? is it any different then the regual rx-7s.

I have always loved the look of rx-7's im trying to get my half brother to sell me his 94 silver. I want his car so bad, it only has 36,XXX miles on it. I hope to meet some nice people on this board that will help me with my questions. I will probebly have alot if i get an rx-7, even if i dont i will still ask about them because you guys have one of the sweetiest cars.

R-1 was mazda's higher performance rx-7 in '93. It had no sunroof, stiffer springs, bigger roll bars, cloth seats (suede like, grip better), a second oil cooler, and most likely some other things I'm forgetting.

In '94 and '95 it was called the R-2 and is essentially the same thing.

P.S. Rx-7's never had any badges to indicate if they were r-1 or not

r1 was the performance package (r might stand for racing) it came with front and rear spoilers, no bose stereo, no cruise control, an extra oil cooler, no sunroof and cloth/suede interiro instead of leather

It means Rice One in this case since no FD3S came with R1 stickers as a previous poster has already pointed out.

This has been covered a million times, but:
- All models from a given year had the same springs and sway bars
- R models had different shocks and a strut brace

There are some differences between models of the same year with bushing, etc. Take a look at this link and the post by turbojeff: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ghlight=shocks
