What do you mean it's not ported?

What do you mean it's not ported?
I started having suspicions that my motor was not ported the other day. I was looking over my itemization of my bill at KDR, and no where on it did it mention anything about the motor being ported.
My idle is really smooth, which is uncharacterstic of a ported motor, and it runs beautifully with the stock ECU, which was another clue. I was going to order my power FC this morning from SR Motorsports, so I needed to know for sure.
I called KDR and talked to Skip, and it turns out that the motor was never ported. I could swear I told Dave I wanted it ported when I dropped the car off, but there's really no way to tell if I did or I didn't.
So I'm pretty upset about that, I really wanted a street-port. But I didn't pay for it, so I can't be too mad.
Anyways... I'm just venting.

Hmm, my KDR port idles smoothly (its fairly mild), so thats no indicator.
He did mine with the upgraded o-rings, a balance/blueprint, and the oil/water passage massaging. I think you'd really have to pull off the intake/exhaust manifolds and physically look at the ports to really know for sure.

The funniest thing is, I specifically asked Dave when I dropped the car off if the motor would run OK at 7psi (non-seq and no PFC yet) with the ported motor, and the stock ECU. And he said yes. I have commented about this in other threads as well, and I remember the incident happenening, so I know he and I talked about it being ported.

Mine says, "Remove engine, remove all parts from engine...reinstall all parts on new mazd reman engine, replace all needed gskts and oring, belts and hoses... reinstall engine" Nothing about porting.

I still have my invoice somewhere (just moved). but i do remember the "balance blueprint/rebuild" part, and i believ the porting.... Dave have me digital pics of the intake ports (from the outside, after the motor was assembled), ... you can't really see much other than the openings look polished.

well just like you said, you didn't pay for it so its not that bad...although it would have saved you some money cuz you would have had the motor out, so if you do it in the future, youll have to have the motor repulled and reinstalled when you could have done it already...hehe sorry if its pissing you off more, but its just something that i realized while reading your thread...

Not to worry, your motor will be out again sometime in the near future .
Juuuust kidding, man. Back in the day when I was still learning at the school of hard knocks, I had quite a few opportunities to get my motor ported
Based upon my motor, Dave is kind of conservative with his standard streetports. My intake ports (both primary and secondary) were opened up a bit and nicely smoothed, but my exhaust ports were stock. I'm assuming that he did this b/c I was still on the stock twins and had no plans to upgrade at the time. My exhaust ports are quite a bit different now .
Also, on your work order did you write down all of your instructions in detail? I've come to learn that verbal comms don't mean much when the shop is very busy and dealing with so many customers.
People have made big power on a stock motor. I wouldn't sweat it too much

This sounds like my port... Dave reasoned that with stock turbos, the slightly modded exhaust ports were better for air velocity... i've been very happy w/ it.

Anyways, **** happens. As you say, the motor will be out again sometime anyway. I just wanted it ported now, while it was being built.
I know it's more than possible to make big power on a stock motor, I just wanted the extra push.

wow that sucks. I'd probably be kinda upset too. But hey, ya got your new motor and you're good for a while. You can make plenty of power without that extra push. Have fun
