What to do with 2000$

I have 2000$ that I want to put into my car. I was thinking konig imagine rims with 265's in the rear, or putting the money into modifications. I already have a full 3 inch exhaust, power intake, hardpipe kit and a BOV. I was thinking about a boost controller, a s-afc and some other goodies, what do you guys think?

Ditch the S-AFC/Boost controller combo and invest that $2K into a good standalone ECU that can control boost like the Apexi PowerFC. Take the remaining $800 or so and open a savings account to save up for the inevitable rebuild.

Double ditto. A stand alone and a good tune are irreplacable(for reliability, and performance).

^Double Ditto.

with your mods it sounds like you need an ECU anyway.

you got the stock ecu, pettit, m2, apexi pfc, haltech, pfs pms, and aem. I think that is all of them. The stock is not good for anything but close to stock boost levels. Pettit and m2 are good but only for certain mods. The rest are reprogrammable but the worse of what is left is the pfs pms because it is a piggy back unit, not a stand alone. Most people prefer the apexi power fc (in fact I am getting mine next week )

so would someone please explain to me why i should spend $900 on the apexi power FC when i could spend $700 on the M2 one or even $400 on another ECU? Im not being a smart *** or sarcastic, this is an honest question. Im planing on doing this to my car too and i just want to know what is the best for my car and why. Thank you guys!

Sure, ask yourself what you want to do with the car. If it ends with a full exhaust and intake then fine, go with the pettit or m2. If you want to do more (ie upgraded injectors, ic, fuel pump, possibly even a single turbo somewhere down the line) then spare the extra cash now and you will actually save money in the long run. I was cheap and went with the pettit for $700 and then 1 year later sold it for $400 just to spend what I could have spent to begin with and get the pfc.

You cant change the tuning of a upgraded ecu like the Pettit or M2. With a standalone like the Power FC, Haltech, ect ,ect you can dyno tune your car and have access to EVERYTHING which means you can create more power.

If all you want to do it run basic bolt ons and get a used Pettit unlimited ecu for $500. You can always upgrade from it later if need be and not be out any money since you'll be able to sell it a year from now for the same price.

A standalone can be alot to deal with and I doubt your interested in that right now. Especially if you dont have a real good dyno tuner in your area that specializes with rotary.

Let me just echo the two points the others made and clarify it a bit with one word "flexability". An upgraded ECU from Pettit or M2 or any other upgrade based on a stock ECU will not be flexible. It is simply ballpark tuned for whatever mods you have at the time. If you decide to do more mods or up the boost you will have to get the ECU reprogrammed at an additional cost. Standalone ECU's are infinitely reprogrammable via a Commander or laptop and are therefore flexible. Also almost all of the standalone ECU's have other benefits like better processing for a smoother running car (no more bad idle or 3K hesitation) and other features like anti-lag or launch control, setting the temps when you want your fans to come on and datalogging to mention a few. The drawbacks to a standalone ECU is you need someone to tune it, preferably on a dyno, or on the street with a wideband and datalogging, don't buy into the "mail order tuning" services like XS and SR offer.

so what im gathering is that the standalone ECUs are much more flexible than the upgrades themselves. Another question i have is this: how far should the upgrades go before i should REALY get a stand alone? I want a new cpu mainly so i dont run lean but should i spend 2 to 3 times as much as the pre-programed to get a stand alone when im not really planing on going single turbo or even changeing the boost presure at all?

no, if you are not going to go over the stock boost then there is no reason, other than safety, to get an upgraded ecu.

If you go over 10-11psi of bosot you need some form of ecu upgrade, a Pettit/M2 or a standalone.

Basically if your not going to run over 14psi of boost which is about all you can safely run with the twins a Pettit will be fine. You just plug it in and go with no hassles or dyno tuning. They are safe, stupid simple, and you dont have to worry about it......BUT its not going to be fine tuned. Its tuned to be safe but that isnt the same as being fine tuned for that last hp. To fine tune you need a dyno and you cant dyno tune without a standalone. That being said, you can still make alot of power with a Pettit ecu, enough to get into the 11's with ease.

If all you want is to make your car safe and keep the same mods you currently have then I would suggest getting a Pettit unlimited ecu sometime this week. You have too many mods for the stock ecu.

Then if you decide to turn the boost up so high that it requires a upgraded fuel system you might want to consider a standalone.

go with the power fc....your car will run smoother..due to the 16 bit compared to the stock 8 bit and you will be able to get any sensor reading off the commander if u decide to get it......VERY easy to install only thing is that you MAY have problems running huge injectors for a single turbo...however if you have the cash for the turbo you got the cash for the ecu

THE BEST THING TO DO WITH YOUR 2K IS:

BUY A 2ND CAR, A DAILY BEATER
