Question What did I do Wrong???@#$...help!

OK, here's what I did: I bought and polished a spare UIM/TB that had a couple block off plates on the back side of the UIM(closer to the fire wall).

I swapped my new polished UIM/TB for my OEM cast UIM/TB. When I started her up again my car ran really realy rough and had blue/black smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Even if I rev the engine up to say, 1500-2000 rpm, the car still runs really rough. It sounds as if it is "missing" and not firing or burning all the fuel!..

So What could I have screwed up by replacing the UIM?TB???

Someone please help. PM me. or if you are feeling especially generous(with your time) call me on my cell phone. 415-609-2341.

Thanks,

John

I second that. Check the MAP sensor!

Thanks Guys! It was the MAP sensor. Like a dumbass, I forgot to hook-up the hose...

I have one last issue.: I swapped my UIM/TB for another UIM/TB with the AWS removed w/ BOP's.

The Problem: My Idle won't smooth out or idle below 1300-1100 rpms unless I pop the hood and push the Throttle thingy with my finger, then the car idles nicely at 900 rpm(a bit higher than my old set-up)

Also, is there something that I need to do differently when removing the AWS? Do I need to do any thing with the wire harnesses?

Thanks,

John

Try a 330 ohm resistor in the AWS plug. For some reason, my car idles fine without one, but I remember Dont_Be_A_Rikki said something about it a while back.

Where do I get one and what does it look like? I'll check to see if there is a write up on Dont_Be_A_Rikki.com

Thanks.

It sounds like you need to adjust that thing that keeps your throttle from slamming shut really fast... can't remember the name of it right now, for some reason... It's a gold colored canister that 'cushions' the throttle when you close it quickly. You can adjust it by loosening the locknut and then turning it by hand (If I remember right).

It could also be your fast idle cam, if you removed your AWS. I haven't done the mod to my car, but I remember reading on Robinette's site about how you have to wire something so it stays in a certain position. Its on the firewall side of the throttle body.

Jonski, you beat me to it! It was driving me crazy not being able to remember 'dash pot', so I did a little search. Thats wierd that yours is green... maybe they used different colors?

Thansk guys! All the info helped. Adjusting the "gold colored canister that 'cushions' the throttle" did the trick. I got the idle down to 900-1000 rpm where I like it.

Now I just want to smooth it out a little, so my interior doesn't vibrate/rattle so much.

UIM= upper intake manifold, TB= throttle body, BOP's= block off plates. There are many more but these are the main ones used in this thread. You can try doing a search. I forgot the title of the post, but there is one with many of the abbreviations listed.
