I own both cars and they're very different. Depends on what you're looking for. I personally like the 300ZX better but that's just my opinion. They're just as fast in a straight line stock vs stock and both are easily modded. The Z is heavier and the RX7 handles better but the Z has better build quality. Don't flame, just my opinion based on the 2 cars I own.

given this is a rx7 forum, you will get fd. i have owned it for long *** time, still is the best PURE sports car that can match or better, most new cars such as z06s or 350zs, on track. 300zx is a grand tourer, thing you wanna go to vegas with. Rx7 is DA Thing you wanna be up in mts or circuits

For sex the 300zx is better. T-tops are an unfair advantage.

And that's about the only thing besides that cool GI Joe/Barbie commercial they ran (after the car was discontinued - go figure)

300ZX is heavier, is more of a GT car compared to the the FD but performance is similar. The 300z has better all around reliability, the FD has exotic car looks and razor sharp performance but is hampered by poor reliability. Now if I could just fit a RB26 in my FD.

My two cents worth

I think the third generation Rx-7 is probably one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The 300Z is also quite nice but does not bring out the same response in most people. Sometimes when I drive my car into certain areas like when I drove to Montreal a couple of years ago the response was amazing, I felt like a celebrity. At one point I drove by this bus stop with like about fifty people and they all turned around. That alone was almost worth the three years of worries, the gas consumption, the little pieces of the car that breaks down. This car is like a gorgeous woman that has alot of issues. Plus you need to really baby it. I think the Z is more like a normal girl who you can take out into rougher areas and basically who can handle more difficult conditions. Ideally we could all own three cars and the Z would definitely be a nice second one.
