what was that bang???

OK
I was drivin down the road the other day and I had my boost ( tap) wound all the way up which I had forgotten about duuuhhh!!!!
Anyways, I floored it ( as you do ) and the boost guage went off the clock resulting in an almighty BANG with a massive BACKFIRE! which lit up the whole interior of my car and made my wife want to change her knickers.
So I immediatly pulled over thinking oh god what happened but.....nothing. There was no smell? there was no visible damage anywhere at all and when I jumped back in and drove off the car boosted perfectly normal, I have had it checked since ( compression test ) and its fine, if anything I reckon its driving heaps better??

So what the hell happened and is there something I've missed????

My guy says detonation sounds like someone shaking a coffee can half full of nails one good hard time.............

Could that have been it? I've never heard it (and hope I never do.......)

Did you lose power when you heard the bang or were you compelled to just let off the pedal? If your car felt like it hit a brick wall, it was fuek cut (nasty feeling) but if it kept pulling thorugh, or did not lose power, it was probably just a backfire, fd's are flamers afterall

do you have an aftermarket wastegate not setup in your exhaust system if you do then the wastegate will make a really loud noise like something just broke off the engine

Indeed HAHA

im confused did you way over boost? the right combination of driving actions will cause a huge backfire its only happened to me once. If you overboosted Id say it was a fuel cut.
